can anyone shed some light on the mg metro heads for me?
Are they any good?
What work would i need to do to them?

The engine isnt standard bore (not sure what size, but a little bit bigger) but other then that it is a fairly standard setup, i'm also putting twin carbs on the car, so i want it to have a little poke, and dont want the head to restrict the power.

Any other advice or questions i should ask when looking for heads?

Cheers Ryan

mg metro heads/also vanden plas im led to believe are the big valve type(same valve sizes as cooper s)
normal metro/1275 a plus/injection heads all have the smaller valves
it is very difficult to tell what head has what valves just by looking at the outside as unfortunantly the A Plus heads look the same(12g940 is part number across the board)

Not much really wrong with an MG Metro head.
They need less porting mods than others to go fasterrrrrrrrr. 8)

I don't know what year they changed to unleaded for UK but my MG metro engine didn't have unleaded seats in the head when I got it. I had Liddells do the head work and my dyno results are on here somewhere.

My car is stock bottom end.

Never, ever gets too hot, which is what I like about late model heads.

mg/vdp a+ big valve head USUALLY has an extra bit of casting behind the thermostat housing, its not as flat looking as a stock 1275 head, look for pics of john's? Midas gold, its got an a+ head i think, and from memory you can see the differance behind the thermostat.

..... and 3 groove collets/valves. Different to all the previous 1275 ones.

As said you can see the external difference in this shot behind the thermo housing, this is a MG metro A+
