Hi,

I've got a standard '65 deluxe and I know the gear box has no syncro on 1st, but I shoul dstill be able to downshift normally between 3rd and 2nd right?

At the moment I have to come to a complete standstill to shift into 1st or 2nd.

Any advice??

match revs by giving the accelerator a hit just before you change down??

Could be a million things, especially the synchro rings in the box...a common one is the transfer rod splines becoming loose at the back of the engine. If you look down there you will see a short rod, with a bell crank and pinch bolts that you can tighten....

Because there is no syncro on first the second gear syncro wears quicker because some drivers learn how to shift from neutral to second and then into first when starting off. If you give it a rev on the down change you should be able to learn how to get it in gear on the move.
But remember, it is a sign that the box is needing attention.

Have you tried double clutching? Maybe that will help?

Check the clutch is disengaging properly first...

I had a 78 clubbie that would not go down from 3rd to 2nd without double clutching. Once I learned how to do that I had no dramas... and to this day I always still double clutch if I am going down to 2nd gear in any car... old habits die hard I suppose
