On a Cooper S caliper, the thread is counterbored about 1.5mm deep to clear the end of the hose's thread, and let it seal on the copper washer.
On a Honda caliper the hole is threaded all the way out, no counterbore. If you screw the Mini hose in, the end of the thread will stop the washer from sealing. Adding another copper washer fixes it.

Alternative is to strip out the caliper, spotface a counterbore in there, clean it, put a kit in it, refit. Lots of work for nothing..

Spoke with my solicitor today about the brake CD he said he will look at the possible legal dramas that could be associated with producing a CD. He seemed positive so I am still working on it. What the hell was all that about a free reptile in a fish tank????? I think I will wait for the legal decisions.

Bob

PS if it is no, then a black market edition may become available from an unmarked post box. he he. Keep you all posted. I will have a word with the Doc but the cost of the CD will be about $20AUD + P/H.

As would I.

I'm sure with a liability disclaimer you should have no legal issues.

The price is fair too, in my opinion.

can't wait!!

I would just like to add my thanks to you and DrMini for giving us all such valuable info on this (and other) topics.

Regards
kevin.

bob, i think crazy nick was suggesting that you could sell the cd along with a kit, but just charge for the cd at a "high" price....although i think you've already said no to a kit earlier (fair enuf). once again, thanks for all the effort you've put in so far....let us all know when it's ready :D

I've looked at most of the Jap crap in the wreckers, Honda calipers are more compact than most. A lot of the others (Mitsubishi, Toyota etc) have a dirty big pad retainer that gets in the way.

You also need to consider how you are going to mount the caliper, the Honda one just fits with a bit of work.

Of course if you got `disc brake' swivel hubs, there are other choices...

righto...cheers for that

if u noticed im weighing up my brakes options.....

my only concern is with regards to turbocharging the 1100(or maybe a 1275 if funds allow) will the hondas do a sufficient job to stop it, aswell as get it regoed?

S disc- 7.5" dia, 9.5mm thick.
Civic/City disc- 7.9" dia (after machining), 12mm thick.
I'd say the Hondas are as good as S on the street, dunno about the track, but hey, they are bigger..

re the rego- I've put them on the Clubbie, but it's not been for blue slip yet. I'm painting the spacers black and screwing them on with the discs, using clubbie S screws.. 8)
I've driven a few laps round the block, and it stops better than my S ones!

As for turboing, I don't know. It think it may depend on the engineer, lol. Do you need to get an engineer report to turbo? I know someone who didn't, he had no problems getting a pink slip either. Mind you, he didn't cut the body to fit the turbo in..

im not to sure about the report.....something ive been looking into.

As far as i see it, if i put the bulkhead box in, as long as it is insulated enough from the cabin, and strengthened, it shouldnt be a problem.

Im mroe concerned about the brakes. If i fit metro brakes i can say, they used these on english turbo minis and it shoudl pass relatively easily.

whereas the smaller honda discs(single piston claiper etc) might be harder to swing past them. Ill find out more about the bulkhead box and legaility of the turbo, but i cant see that being a problem

Brad (13secmini) was going to use the Hondas with his Starlet turbo conversion and 13" wheels, they told him metro turbo 4 pots would be a better idea. So he did. NFG for 10" wheels though- red850 is running 6x10s on his 1400 turbo, with S discs, and it stops good.

Sounds sweet. :D
Just watch that the rear wheels don't lock under heavy braking (could happen with the bigger discs on the front). If they do, go buy some smaller `S' rear wheel cylinders (5/8" bore).
