Basically, I knew the paint wasn't perfect but I was hoping it could keep rust away. But eventually, I will get it re-painted in just perfect condition because I will keep it for a long term.

But now since cracking is seen and the fact that the interior wasn't done up, I have been thinking to do it all over again - start from the beginning. Although it costs, but it will be a long term thing and a peace of mind as you don't need to worry about the paint is not good and rusts keep creeping up from cracks, etc.

By the way, what's the difference between a new car's paint and a show car finish? So a brand new Toyota Aurion is a new paint or a showcar paint? I bet showcar paint job is the best you can get, right? haha


I will probably use it 2-3 times a week or less or even 1 day, don't think will leave it out at shops' car park/car park. keke. Imagine Trolleys and big guys with strong arm opening their doors and hits at your mini door. Oucch!

I will park it at my girl friend's unit's garage usually. But it can occasionally be outside at the kerbs (I hope won't do it great harm).

Dunno, the left door does not require as much force to close than the right door. The right door is just extremely extremely hard. Will try to adjust it soon/sand away a bit of rubbers to see how it will be like. The bonnet has NO rubber stops at all. DO YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN GET IT? At the moment, I am using tissue and stuff it in there as a temporary measure to stop the bonnet jiggling. The corners of the bonnet meets the other 2 corners exactly at the bottom (almost no gap). The right corner leave a slightly bigger gap than the left but no better.

I can gradually learn about the mechaincal aspect of the minis by reading books and stuffs and do it myself, but I think (as you said) it would be better with professinals who has the experience to do the painting as they give a better finish. Cus at the end, you wouldn't want to take out everything and do it again if there happens to be any flaws in it. But let s see, I might change my mind later on. Now, it seems a luxury for me to do most things up myself (especially the paint) as I don't have that space and time and knowledge at the moment. I am just a beginner for 2 weeks.

you could do it mr bean style explosive, can of paint although you'll need many many piles of news paper to cover the front of your house the driveway the roadway footpath and of course the neighbors cars and house of course you could do many many people in sydney a favour and do it in front of a speed camera and save the news paper.....

re the bonnet stops, there is a hole an inch or so from each corner, in the front panel. There are little rubber stops go in there. Try Mini Spares at Padstow.

Yeah, I knew those 2 holes are for that purpose. That's where I put tissue in there as a temporary stopper. haha. I will go there to see. Do they fix Minis too? or just selling parts and accessories, etc

And also, anyone knows where to do good UPHOLSTERY and also give good advise with the color-matching?

The guy who did my car is a full on car enthusiast, he owns a genuine 69 big block camaro RS SS. His wife owns a 67 Mustang. Both cars are full on show quality.

So i knew i would be getting a good job on my car, by looking at the quality of his work. I delieverd the car to them as an entirely BARE shell. I completely stripped the entire thing. I got the car back as a painted shell.

I did all the work on my car except paint the body and powdercoat all the powdercoated items. It took a couple of yrs to get it finished but was worth it in the end.

i would get onto Steve.E on this forum, he has had some real nice upholstery done on his mini's, he will put you onto a good guy for that.

If you are going to do the entire inside you can do it what colour you want, the original is the green you see in there now, but i think it all depends what colour you want the outside.

Cool. Thanks for this Brad. It's good that you did not mis-interpret what I said for my previous posts.

By the way, I think the green is good in the car as it matches the white. However, there seems to be like 4 different tones of green in there. Each of them are good, but seems need to reorganise which tone should be at where.

Also, where did you do the carpets...I thnk I will go there and get the same material but "edge" it properly, etc etc.

If you get a really good spraypainter to go over an average new car on the lot he'll most likely find several problems with the paint , a show car will be mirror smooth whereas a new car is often orange peeled to a certain degree and panel fit etc can be iffy . All depends on how good a finish you want and what you're prepared to pay for it . A lot of panel guy's and spray painters are only interested in insurance work now , as 9YaTaH said , why do a complete car when they can do a bumper replacement from a minor bingle and get $3000 or more for it .... Hope you find someone who'll do the job you want for a reassonable price , though you might want to drive the mini and enjoy it for a while first , otherwise it becomes something you're paying for and have to wait months to be able to enjoy it .

Got it. That's why again a panel beater at Chatswood were saying they will do it for $10,000. Afterall, they just wanna turn you away. Yes, why would they be interested at all for these kind of jobs if they can actually get more for each unit of work they do for insurance job.

I dun mind the wait as long as it will turn out good. keke ...

What I am thinking is to get all the appearance done up, then proceed to mechincal stuff. I dunno if that would be a right move. Or I can actaully do them in either direction.

Yeah got plenty of pics but i took them when i picked my car up from the shop which was in 2001. Back then Digital Cameras werent exactly affordable, so all the pics i have are real photographs.

Its a genuine one owner 69 Big Block Camaro RS SS, has a black vinyl roof and is painted in the Kermit the Frog Green. The previous owner converted it to RHD but Anthony converted it back to Left Hand Hook. It even has wat they call a "tick tock tacho".... which means the tacho has an analouge clock in the centre of the gauge. A rare factory option apparently?

I do however have a pic of his wifes car. Its pretty tidy also!!!! Sorry, did i say it was a fastback Mustang??? Obviously its not......!!!

Its not a Fastback! I F****d up. Its just a 67 Mustang. It was actually spotted at this Car Show in Cairns and got a full 5 page feature in Street Fords Magazine. Not bad for a girls car!!! Ill have to try n scan the pics of the Camaro n get em on my PC, or next time i pay him a visit con him into unlocking his shed and lifting up the covers on it!!!
