Can anyone tell me if the wheelboxes from a MKI and all the rest are PHYSICALLY the same diamensions excluding the gear?

I know the gears have different number of teeth and the thread is different but apart from that is there any reason why you couldnt change the gears out of a MKI wheelbox into a newer one and use it?

Don't believe the UK people that say the threads are different.
Out here the threads are all the same, they are a fine UNF thread.
You can screw an Oz 8 side or a 6 side nut onto them. I use the 6 siders, they are much easier to get off as they don't go oval with a bit of spanner pressure.

re the other wheelbox differences, I'm not sure- I have 2 sets of Clubby ones assembled on the shelf but the only Mk1s are on Barney.

WIPER WHEEL BOX 8 SIDED CHROME METRIC MK3 ON

Description

8 sided nut for the Mk3 wiper wheel box (37H7200) Mk1 were 6 sided and a different thread

Apparently they have a metric thread

MSC say that the MKI wheel box had 22 teeth and later ones had 32. Just counted my MKI version and it has 32 teeth - the shaft length is 5mm shorter than the later one. Anyone have a MKI wheel box they can check the tooth count for me - cause if it is 32 then I may as well buy the later version as a replacement - 5mm shouldn't make too much difference.

That's the UK one, maybe is, over there. Ours Mk2 on are a different wheelbox, so watch it.. I put 6 side ones on my 70 model Oz wheelboxes, thread looks same, no problem.
