I got myself a white plastic one. I had to sand the back side down a bit (not the blades but the centre) to make it fit in my roundy. Now when sanding down a bit I noticed it was white underneath. Was there a whit fan? Or does plastic jsut fade througout itself?

Oh the old "White" plastic fans are really good for exploding, they get all hard & fatigued with age & heat etc &--->

BANG!!!!!!!!!! ,,,,,,,,,,,, & there goes half your radiator as well :-) plastic bits everywhere. lovely-- NOT!!!!

scares the be-shitters out of ya when it happens too :-)

the yellow ones are a bit more flexable & don`t tend to go as hard & brittle as the white ones

I run a 4 blade, have done since i was a kid, they work well & yeah, they`re noisy, i don`t care tho, they cool my 1510cc road donk & my 1415cc full race 8500rpm screamer donk too. no extra heater core thingy, no extra nothing, just the by-pass hose mod that we do & an metal expansion tank & all is well forever.

Thermos are good for those hot days stuck in traffic tho, they do help there, but that`s all they`re good for,,, if you have an overheating problem then something is wrong, fix that wrong thing & all should be well

cure the cause, don`t just cover up the symptom,,, but if you still like the confidence that a thermo fan gives you in stop/start hot traffic jams then do it too, no biggy tho

Some of the newer replacement fans are white. From what i've seen the white ones have the widest blades and so should provide the best cooling.

However, I found that the white fan does not fit between the pump and a 4 core rad (which is why I went to the metal fan...and then back to a yellow plastic when i found out how poorly the metal one work).

Cheers, Ian

When I fitted the A+ 1275 Auto in the Moke I found the only fan that would fit was a metal one borrowed from the Traveller with a spacer from a clubby between the pully and fan. All other combinations fouled on the timing cover breather! Yeah, I know I coulkd have changed the cover or attache dthe breather with a hammer, bit I couldn't be stuffed pulling the radiator out again.

What would be wrong with putting a 9" or 10" thermo inside the shroud between the water pump and radiator (apart from clearance issues) and removing the original fan completely? As far as I can see, a thermo in this spot should work just like an engine driven fan. Opinions?

Cheers,

The white one we threw blades off of was from an early Clubby, so yes it was probably brittle- material more like nylon.. But I think it had narrower blades than the common later yellow one. These didn't break, just got bent instead.
