For it to be a Mini Deluxe, it is sure different. Just a quick observation of the pics shows up a number of oddities. Apart from the English grille, it appears to be fitted with a two speed wiper and the wipers appear to be fitted in indented holes on the scuttle. It is also fitted with a generator, discontinued in 1967. The front bumper is not a deluxe version, more a clubman. However, all will be revealed when you can get hold of it and clean it up to get all the ID numbers. There are a number of Ausmini members in Canberra that will help you out.
The Deluxe got the changed pattern wipers (Mid 68 ) and the generator was on all the Deluxes and the changeover was the K.
My guess is still a Deluxe. The prefix on the plate should be YMA2S2

The deluxes which got the new wiper pattern in 68, only got the single speed version of the wiper motor even though it was a new design. 2 speed came later (4 wire plug, not 3 wire)

Cheers!

Matt

I'm tempted to get the engine & gearbox taken out en route in Sydney for rebuilding, then start cleaning up the body etc at home in Canberra.

What do you learned folks think - is this too much too soon?

Go for it, you'll save money in the long run. Just have a good long hard think about exactly what you want it to be, planning here will save you a mint when you decide to start all over again in 12 months time!

:wink: :wink:

And the winners of the "Pick That Mini" competition are.... bnicho and Morris1100 :)

Engine Y9A/TA/H38288 -> 997 / 998cc...? (free upgrade from 850? :o )

Body YMA2S2 37050 -> '68 Deluxe...?

I attended my first meeting of the ACT Mini Car Club last night - it's all been one big happy Mini family thus far :D

That body number is only a few hundred from my 68 deluxe!! Small world really. Whatever happened to the deluxe register? Who was looking after it? (no, i DONT care enough to search for it apparantly!! :wink: :wink: )

The engine is a 998, not a cooper 998, but they are a good little motor alright!

Cheers

It is great to get it right! :lol:

Engine 9Ya/Ta/H38288
9 = 998
Y = Australian manufacture
A = ? (one of the codes I don't know! :roll: )
Ta = Std. ratio remote centre change
H = High compression

Body YMA2S2 37050
Y = Australian manufacture
M = Morris
A = Engine Capacity 0 - 1000cc
2S = 2 Door saloon
2 = Series of model = 2 (= Deluxe)

The wiper pattern changed at body number YMA2S2-32800 so it is a late Deluxe. I don't know the last body number though. :cry:

As the discoverer/photographer of this vehicle I hope all goes well with it for you. I will be in bourke in the up coming weeks and will have to go and see Wood Bros to see if there is a commission in it for me.
