Does it still have the rectangular plate on the firewall?

PS/ Moving it to the correct section, you'll get a better response.

A 1970 Mini will have a compliance plate and it does not have an engine number unlike the Identification Plate fitted to the Australian minis from 61 to 69.
The only way anyone can prove matching numbers on a post 1970 car is with the original paperwork like the original registration papers and the Passport to Service booklet.

Another way to get an approximate figure is to check the car number against the engine number, there is a rough difference of 500 between the car number and the engine number. (this only applies to Australian built cars with Australian built engines)
If your car number is YG2S1 24000 the engine number should be approximately 10YC/Ta/H24500 (it will not be 500 but it should be within 1000 each way) If the engine number is something like 10YC/Ta/H11500 it is out of a much earlier car.

As far as I know my Van (70) has compliance plate and ID plate which states the engine number.

Unfortunately my van isn't here to go check!

My 70 Van only had the compliance plate. No build plate.

Cheers,
