It's making a tic tic tic sound that gets faster as I drive but the needle doesn't move :(

I hope it's not a big problem

I think it's the speedo as it is going tic tic meaning the cable is spinning but the speedo is not registering it?

Cable may bae winding up and then letting go once pressure builds. May have seized the internals as well and the cable is ticking inside the housing. Only one way to find out!

Preliminary investigation has uncovered zippo...

the right angle adapter was slightly loose but that did not fix the problem when doing it up tighter. I think I might have to take it apart litterally :(

Bummer cause the engine is running beautifully... it's always got to be something eh? I don't want to drive her cause the odo has stopped working too so I don't want to run "unregistered" miles

Snapped speedo cable!

It snapped about 4inch from the speedo. I only had a spare late model clip on type cable, but because I am a Maguiver type guy, I made it work 8)

And those who say it is hard to get the speedo cable on and off with engine in, yes it is hard but not impossible. I can think of a few tasks much more difficult than that :P 8)

Maguiver type? does that mean cheap!

As for getting speedo cable on and off, sure its easy when your talkng about a motor thats only been rebuilt and driven for less than a day  try 2-30 years of crud holding an old one on

No that means inventive! I removed the screw on fitting and crimped it onto the clubman cable. It works now!

My first Mini had some sort of lock over the end of the cable at the motor end. - easiest way to change the broken cable was to pull out the inner and replace it while leaving the outer in place. Now how do you get the shorter broken inner out you ask? In shear frustration - with the cable under the car (on ramps) you you flick the thing like a whip out out it sailed. Took about two days of swearing to get to that point though :?

I was afraid of losing miles actually (running my engine without registering any miles, ie. more miles than actually recorded). Usually this is a bad thing but I want to know how many kms I have run as I am still running in!

2 days!!! it took me about 10 mins, dellorto and manifold off (3 mins 8) ) reach around and undo it by hand. Since I don't have a mechanical fuel pump, it was easy. Replaced it with the new one in the same way. Put the dellorto back (3 mins). 4 mins of gloating about my good job :P :P :P

All is good in the world again!
