It's just drivers in general.

Early this morning, driving home at 3am in adeee's Clot, we were coming down a road that turns from a 2 lane into single lane. There was this VS Commodore with Lexus style tail lights sitting a few km under the limit. So I move over to pass him. I get past and move quite a few car lengths ahead, but seeing as the road turns into a single lane, he had to get ahead. So he puts his foot down, passes me, then slows down and sits on the speed he was when I passed him. He continued the slowish driving, and was REAL slow round the corners.

I don't mind if people floor it and pass me from a while back in a situation like this as long as they let me sit on the speed I want to sit at and don't slow me down.

oh and by th time we made it to the HWY you were speeding.... 120 along THAT road in rather dense fog is suicidal. i may have been drunk but i was still with it.

Yeah to me it is just mini's.

Two points, a few weeks ago when my mini was off the raod and my dad drove his to work I took the big yellow Mercedes out. And dammit when you indicate people move! And no one tailgates. It's the "I'm big, yellow and got p-plates, watch out!" thign.

But in the mini, it's different.

Last Sunday night on the way to work, I was in the yellow clubby, and I was going on a road, whic hahs a a t-juction at the end in an 80kph zone. I was doing a tad over 80, about 85. And a big old land cruiser appear in the rear mirror. I quickly, and non-deliberately lose him around some tight corners. Then on the straight he catchs up doing about 130ish. We approach then t-junction the I slow down to giveway and turn left but the old crappy land cruiser over take doesn't slow down much, doesn't indicate, then slams his brake to give way to a car, then drives off. Mean while I'm right behind him, wondering why this bloke decided to overtake me, almost casue a crash then slow me down as his big lump of crap can't accelerate at a normal pace. The turns off soon after slowing me down once again...I was pissed off, but then again it happens all the time. Expecially from land cruiser drivers, and commodore drivers, yes it is an EGO thing.

On another note, on a car cruise, at a set of light i gunned it (to the speed limit 80kph) agaisnt another bloke I knew who was driving a celica, I won cos his car was a piece of crap, blowing out smoke non-stop, then he doesn't stop for the speed limit and keeps going - loser flyby. Yep it's all ego, they think they are better. Appart from the lights I never drive like a dickhead I let them do it for me.

We get the same kinds of things, but it's not just the mini that provokes other drivers on the road to be morons. We also own, and drove every day for 5 months, a Nissan Urvan Campervan, and it must be MURDER for people behind us.. no matter what speed we do, under the limit, the limit or even *over* the limit, we will be passed like we're the one holding them up for an important meeting with the Queen.

We traveled up the east coast of Australia, and seen some appalling driving, people just HAD TO PASS THE CAMPERVAN at *ALL* costs, even if it meant doing some incredibly dangerous and stupid maneuvers. We experience similar things driving the mini now, but at least all the roads around here are limited to 60k's. Doing 110k's down a two lane highway, with only a dotted white line separating you from a head-on disaster isn't anyone's idea of a holiday. Then other drivers (even "long vehicle" trucks) try and pass on blind corners, bridges, dirt roads with washboards and potholes...

Sure, people react to the mini, but mostly we can just ignore it and get on with driving. There's been only one incident so far (in less than a month of mini ownership) where we've had to hit the breaks due to someone not recognising our existence on the road. I agree, though, I think it's an ego thing.. race-track mentality.

Yep, that's true. I'll sit behind a truck before I sit behind a campervan.
Usually horridly slow, underpowered and over packed.

Sorry for tarring all campervans with the same brush, but I used to deal with a lot of them in the territory on the vast highways up there and certainly had my fill. Sorta like those mini tip trucks you see in inner city areas a lot.

The way some backpackers look after their vans, I'm not surprised!!! We've seen a lot that are very noisy, got black smoke pouring out the back, and various other scary things going on... We proudly looked after our van, but I can understand why the campervans have a bad name, for sure.

Admittedly, we are slow to take off ;) But when doing the speed limit, or if it's dangerous, you would think people wouldn't make that HUGE effort to get around ya right then and there... silly peoples.

just lead them to a real corner in the mini and DON'T slow down, go round it at the speed limit. it will scare the bejesus out of them when they try to keep up. :D

I put a laser in a paddock one day through a farmers fence by leading him in too fast.... I barely escaped the corner myself....

He did deserve it though, they were beeping and tailgating like crazy.

Feel sorry for the farmer. They are stupid to attempt to match a mini around corners. There's a road on the way to school, it's a part of 'One Tree Hill Rd.' but to locals it's called 'Snake Gulley Rd.' not sure why. Anways, it's mega tight but fine for a mini at 80, many falcons and commodores have lost it here, so you must watch out! But I've had V8 commondores tailgating me, and yelling at me for doing 80 in an 80 xone, then we go into snake gulley and I lose them completely! It's really funny as about 2 mins later back o nthe striahg they catch back up and start tailgating again, but by then there is enough room to vertake, and a policemen lives down there, he sits out the front an busts people. HAHA a black HSV abused me and later I saw him on the side of the road, I slowed right down and gave him a big wave!

BTW - Snake Gulley road is the first tight bit in the 'Classis Adelaide Rally'.

Some people just see a fast car and just have to have a go. The other day when my dad and I were coming home from the Brissie motor show there was some 20 year old in a XF falcon ute that thought he could beat my dad's 260rwkW HSV up the toowoomba range.

Needless to say dad shoved it in 3rd and took it to the 6500rpm redline and we left him for dead. I think dad should have let him go (a 5 year old car with "300" badging - of course it would be a 1980's 6 cylinder) but at 50 years old - I'm not going to lecture him on his descision making - its his licence - not mine. Old mate in the XF tried to keep up too, it was pretty funny, he thought he was so good before that happened.
