Just wondering how many people here are a member of a car club , don't want to know which one or why you are or aren't , or which is better (will be deleting anything derogotory) or worse , just wondering the ratio of club members to not club members . Also added mini or general car club , if you belong to both types then tick the one you are most active with .

NSW Mini Car Club

Ausmini...... well its may as well be a club we all share a common interest and there';s more then 3 members so technically its a club.

"A club is generally an association of people united by a common interest or goal, as opposed to any natural ties of kinship. Such clubs occur in all ancient states of which we have detailed knowledge. Once people started living together in larger groups, there was need for men with a common interest to be able to associate despite having no ties of kinship.

The term club now has broader implications. The Service club, for example, exists for voluntary or charitable activities; there are clubs devoted to all sorts of hobbies, sports, and games, political and religious clubs, Social Activities Clubs that appeal to a variety of interests, and so forth. See for example BSAC (a big British scuba diving club). The term Club can also refer to a nightclub or discothèque."

"Many thousands of years ago, I was a member of the Ford Cortina 1600E Owners Club (South Yorkshire branch). We’d meet once a month, in a car park, and would mooch about in the rain looking at one another’s cars. Looking back on the experience, I really can’t see why this should have had any appeal at all. I mean, yes, my car had a picture of Debbie Harry in the centre of the steering wheel, but other than that it was pretty much the same as everyone else’s car.
Today I loathe, with a furious passion, all car clubs. The notion that you’re going to get on with someone because he also has a Mini is preposterous. Clubs are for people who can’t get friends in the conventional way. They’re for bores and murderers." - Jeremy Clarkson

I'm in the vic mini club so I can have a CAMS license and compete at Hay...

Well, I guess it depends on what you want from a club. :?

Our ACT club offers free tool hire, help from others, people with technical expertise and others always willing to help, things which I would assume many would benefit from. As a long suffering committee member I believe the annual membership is worth it.
On the other hand, there's always the whingers, the one's who always avoid making any commitment or contribution and then complain because nothing that may particularly interest them comes along.

Those who harbour gripes against clubs tend to forget the effort required to run them, which is entirely voluntary. Our club is far from perfect, often frustrating, and will obviously never please everyone, but, well, too bad - that's they way the mop flops.
