Just re-introducing myself, at the moment, I have a 68 MK1 mini , which I use as my runabout . It has done 50,000 kms , had 3 owners , original paint , original upholstery , in bloody good nick . It was owned by a couple of little old ladies for a long time, then a young hoon got hold of it and used it as a paddock car and put a few minor dents in it, and thrashed the guts out of it. It still goes alright though and has a current rego and WOF.
I am using it as-is until I get my 64 MK1 Cooper S restored. The body is almost finished on that. It is an english car which was imported, so I have the Heritage papers which give all the details of when it was built.
So far it has cost 9k , just on the body !! and thats without paint !! But I have spent a heap on other parts, like getting new rotors and calipers reco-ed , original seats at $1200 , original wheels, which I got at a good price etc etc etc.
Cant wait to get this home !!
Anyway, an excellent forum for info, keep up the good work
Cheers, Colin

This forum looks great, I am a long time Mini fan from Sydney.

My first car was a 1962 997 Cooper bought in 1972, written off in 1975 (boohoo).

Replaced with a 850 Van with 1275, that was fun for a few years. Replaced that with 71 Ex-Police Clubman GT, still have that one but needs resto.

Also have a Terrapin Hillclimb car with 1370 Graham Russell engine. It's a hoot to drive, 400kg, 120hp.

Have a few other Minis and hope to get to restoring them when I retire, don't have time yet.

I've had a quite a few cars over the years and nothing is as much fun as a Mini. They become like a part of you.

Look forward to reading about everyone's exploits.

Pete

Hi everybody,
Sorry people but up until now I've neglected to introduce myself so here goes....

Born 12/71 in Sydney.
As a kid every now & then I'd travel in passengers seat of the Bedford 3T tray truck driven by Grandfather (Mum's side & may he R.I.P :( ) for James N Kirby Engineering at Milperra.
It was about here that we occasionally went to the Leyland factory at Enfield :D to pick up different types of machines for repair & return once finished by Kirby Eng.... used to see lots & lots of Mini's :D , Moke's :D & all things Leyland but being very young leaves blurred memories :? .
Left high school & started working for Repco (5.1/2yrs).... smashed my XB Fairmont :( on the way to work 1 day & tried replacing it with a yellow Mini Clubman S :) which had $2499 on the screen, only had $1700 & car yard wouldnt budge :( & old man wouldnt help cause Mini's werent a Ford :x .
Had a few more Ford's due to old man pressures & then went Holden (& still have a few) after a ride in a quick VL Turbo.... which I then purchased :D .... stiff S%$T Dad, you'll have to put up with it in the garage :) .
Went & worked for Sutton's Holden about now (2yrs).... plenty of parts experience but not much with Mini's.
Parts got boring here so I went driving for a living.... in a Daihatsu handivan as a courier, then progessed to a light truck, then a heavy truck.
Somewhere here mates had Mini's (1 was a 1310 with nitrous) as run around cars (I had Datsun's, 2 of them Turboed) & none were showed any respect.
About Nov 99 moved to Western Victoria to drive semi's interstate with Uncle down here as my foot in the door so to speak.
Then got B double licence & was going all over the eastern side of down under & all across the middle as well & in between here & there.
Now started looking for a Mini (Clubman) to play with & was waiting for the correct 1 to come along when.... hay presto, 5/1972 Clubman GT for $2500 spotted.... & quickly grabbed, with a story in itself to be told of the journey home from Adelaide with her!!!!
Currently unemployed by choice due to being annoyed with being away from home all week & sleeping in a small truck cab every night.... & getting stuffed around by A*%@H!#E bosses.
I joined up on Ausmini on 30/01/2007 & have really enjoyed all the browsing I've done & the help, tips & info I have been given, much appreciated fella's & very much looking forward to learning more from you all :D .
Thanks for reading all this drivel & sorry for being boring  (if you arent asleep already that is) but most of all keep up the good work & long live the Mini (& Moke & variants) :) .
Bye for now.
