Don't believe me, check this race result from Amaroo, Greig is driving an Nb historic and came 3rd in a SUPER MINI race. look at the lap time ! http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/resul ... ARDC.P12.Y

Ok, I agree that Grieg is a good driver but so are most of the people on that list and I know the HP wouldn't be giving any advantage with the weight difference.

More impressive then Griegs time check out G Russel... He is giving away 300cc and only lapping 6 secs slower WOW

Mike

Thats because he is secretly racing the 'premier' racing series in a Holden.

I won't get into the failed wheel bearings area, save to say that you shouldn't be putting 5-7inch wide rims on if your bearings aren't top notch...basic safety.

What concerns me more is the Mini weak link...the steering rack...some people put looks and bling in front of mechanical safety....with a marginal rack you would be increasing the chances of a major failure by loading an old worn-out rack with fat rubber....2c

when i bought my 1st "S" in 68 i started to play around with suspension and steering. After numerous stuff ups and many broken parts i found that i had to run hi-cap. taper rollers running in oil not grease. I was using 7" wide 10"dia 3 piece rims with hand grooved slicks on the road as well as racing and i did not have brg. failure. The steering rack was rebuilt with nylon support bushes in each end. The steering arms were replaced with adustable ones for ackerman turn and bump steer. the biggest thing i found with handling and stability under brakes was to make the rear track slightly wider than the front and toe out. There were endless mods. to go faster but at a cost.$$$$$
Back in those days there were no regs. for car mods. The problem is once you start to modify where do you finish.

I can't remember what number or page it is but I have seen the ADR book at a tyre/wheel place and it actaully states:

"Wheel spacers of any type are not legal on any cars in Australia."

My Fiat 124 Sport had an 8mm steel spacer at each corner, stock.
So did Fiat 124 sedan, and 125.
