Depending on the year of manufacture, there can be up to three brown wires on the starter solenoid. For one with two wires, one will wire directly to the alternator and the second to the fuse box, ignition switch and light switch, The second brown wire, therefore, if it is in the condition you state, can be very troublesome and quite possibly the source of all your trouble ie: lights and gauges failing, alternator not charging etc etc..

If I come over tomorrow, I'll bring everything we need to check and fix any problems with your wiring, timing and alternator. Give us a call when free.

David

mine charges very slowly so after few minutes of driving it stalls and runs out of juice
ending up with very weak battery or flat

I do have spare alternators that I could bring over if you have trouble getting one.

Razor, it seems that you have been in trouble since you changed the starter.
On the original solenoid where you joined the cable from the battery to the cable to the starter is the brown wire on the same post or the other post?

The brown power wire for the alternator is on the same post with the starter motor

David I've got an EA to try and install, if that doesnt work then might try your alternator, but it should work.

I've got a bracket today and will try installing the alternator tomorrow.

Cheers
