Hi again people,
I'm the resident "know bugga all about Mini's" & was hoping that someone will be so kind enough to enlighten :o me as to just what exactly is a Mini K please :?: ??
How do I tell if the car is genuine or not.... vin no, eng no, maybe firewall no like my GT :?: ??
Also does 1970 model with an 1100cc motor sound correct & should it have taillamps like a clubman or a round nose & are they valuable or not :?: ??
Thanks again in advance people. :)

G'day

easiest way to define a mini K is:

YMG2S4 YAG2S4 body numbers manu - 1968-1971

oval binnacle with speedo (90mph), water temp, oil pressure
Morris Mini 1100 text on the boot
cooper/deluxe 7 slat grill
round bonnet badge, or 3 pin holes where it was
remote shift 4 synchro 1100 drum brake all round drive train
Black gearstick!
later 70/71 plate K's had lift up - flap- clubman door handles, not the twist type of the std deluxe (and early K)
later ones had clubman heaters
single 1.25" su on std cast manifold
std rims n hubcaps
sticker on the A-panel the size of a 50cent piece, shoing the Kangaroo and "Mini K 1100" text)
some had heated back windows (dealer option most times)

Heres a cupla pics to show the finer points:

I bet not many people know that the 'K' stands for Kangaroo.

im actaully about to look at a mini k and was wondering if there is anything in particular that i should keep my eye out for in terms of issues/dramas.

They look to be a nice round nose on paper but have yet to see it in person.

can i ask what an 'oval binnacle with speedo' is and what a 'cooper 7 slat grill is' (is that just a grill with 7 grill lines?)

Cheers guys

edit: is there any usual rust places on mini k's?

There isn't anything to look out for that you wouldn't look out for on any other mini. the only thing it has that no other model has is the badging. Look for rust, gearbox (2nd gear synchro), wheel bearings for play, steering rack for play, if it overheats, do the drum brakes stop you in a straight line?, engine mounts for play (does it rock back and forth as you let on and off the power), rust..being 1970's vintage they should be OK for rust though..

If it is a

mini K van/ commerial

It has 850 grill and wiggle wand on the 1100cc motor and 4 syncro box as standard.

Seat pattern should also be the same as MKII S

Hi people,
Does anybody know where a fella can buy the Kangaroo badges that go on the A pillars of Mini K's??
All the ones for sale that I'm looking at are missing them!! or are they obsolete & it's a case of having a copy made up??!!??!!

There is an orange Mini K on carsales.com (no pics yet) for $3500 with an 1100 that was recoed in 2000 & converted to unleaded, runs fantastic apparently so long as you dont want to use anything other than 2nd gear!!

This car has had more hits than Elvis & The Beatles put together, has rust, has bog over bog over bog.... & due to a selector problem can only be driven in 2nd gear. Reverse is easy I guess, just open drivers door, extend right leg towards blacktop & push, & again.... push.

The current owner reckons he has had her for 14mths but it is more like 2mths at best & he got her for the sum of $1800 off the previous chap.

I hope this helps any future tyre kickers among us, buyer beware.
