I bought my ex-Police Kalahari Tan GT in 1977 complete except for motor. Previous owner blew it up. I still see the guy I bought it off but he can't remember what he did with the original motor.

I put the 1310 out of my Mini Van in it. I pulled the hydrolastic out and put the dry suspension from a 64 Cooper parts car (seems a sin now but it was the 70's and they were worth nothing). Other than that it is original.

I used it as my only car for many years, sold it to a mate for a few years in the 80's then missed it and bought it back, now in need of restoration.

It still has the original paint but has some rust.

I am really looking forward to restoring it. I live just up the road from Gannons Park so I get to see all those great Minis each year and it gets me excited about doing mine. I haven't driven it for over 20 years.

Pete

Sounds like you have a real connection with that car Pete,
and GTs are the flavour of the month.

Going back to hydro with resto?

I'm pretty sure I have enough bits to convert back to hydro. I'm sure I kept the bags which are the hard bits to get. Haven't decided yet.

hi!

i used to own two mini's - one a 77 or 78 Clubman S (red), and the other a '71 Clubman GT (turquoise, ILN-288 was the Vic rego from memory). The S was really nice until I crashed it, hence the purchase of the GT for the questionably bargain price of $5000. One 1380 engine rebuild later and it was pretty lethal. After bumpin around in the GT for a few years, it was time to get a grown up car. I sinned, and bought a BINI.. and the GT was left undercover and undriven for around 2 years. The stripped and welded up S and the GT were sold by my parents as I moved interstate and left them in their driveway! I miss them both!

Would love to find out what happened to the GT, I hope it went to a good home. It needed a lot of work - the front end had had a dodgy cut/shut job done on it from the top of the wheel arch forward, and it never drove straight.. and the paint work was original and very poor, but it seemed to be pretty rust free. The engine/gearbox was rebuilt by my father and myself, and it seemed to go alright. had a weber 40 DCOE carby on it. The engine had less than 10,000k's on it when sold.

Am currently in the market for my 3rd mini, if I can convince the fiance, who wants a house, and a wedding, etc etc.

oh my name is Tim. love the forums!

Hi all,

After lurking around these parts for maybe a couple of years, I finally registered a few weeks ago and wondered why I didn't do it sooner.. Now I figure I should finally formally introduce myself :)

Name's Simon, and I'm currently Mini-less.. been in the wilderness for .. oh, must be 5 years now. I'm currently looking for a Morris (I can't bring myself to call it a 'roundnose' ) which has been lovingly restored and maybe worked over a bit. Why don't I do it myself, you ask? Me too.. but the sad reality is that my last Mini (a 1970 K) slowly fell into a state of disrepair, and between running a business, Wifey and two small boys (and a third on the way), renovations and Life, I just never found the time to restore the Old Girl.. so she became a birthday present for my father who gave her the TLC she deserved.

I've had Mini's since I was 16, when I inherited my mother's old '62 850, when she upgraded to a '78 Leyland. I put heaps of work into that car, only to write off the Leyland a couple of years later and hand the 850 back :( That began a long obsession and countless Mini's which ended when I defected and bought a BINI. The growing family meant that had to go, and so now I'm in an E90 3-series.. which is a fine car, but just a car. I finally realised what's missing, so now I'm looking for the aforementioned Morris. If anyone wants, or knows someone who wants a BMW, let me know :)
