I've used Hepolite pistons, In fact I have a set of their 21251s in Barney's 1293, it's done around 10,000 miles or so and uses NO oil.

My last 1310 I built got Mahle forged flat top pistons- I took them out of the Mk2S motor (they were still good), bored an 1100S block to suit, and fitted them with a Hepolite ring set. It never used much oil either.

I reckon it mostly depends on the rebore job, particularly the final honing. There are tricks to getting it just right so the rings bed in quickly. Ask Graham Russell to do it, he knows the tricks.

if you open the cap and a sudden rush of air comes out then the crankcase is not breathing properly. Check for blockages i guess

the crankcase always has air inside trying to escape (except dry-sump) from blowby of rings and valve guides etc. If what you are talking about is a constant pulse of air then possibly your compression rings are gone or it's normal?

Given that you have 165psi pressure after compression test I doubt there is anything major wrong with the rings, however the exhaust guides may be worn allowing extra air into the head/rocker cover area. This combined with the 'normal' blow-by might add to the amount coming out.

What are you comparing these symptoms to?
