I was lucky enough to come across a discarded but in reasonably good nic matching number 850 today( see post - "bargain or what) so I bought it. Going to restore it to be a twin of "Morris" but this time try ro get the 850 to go a bit harder rather than change to 998

Mine is pretty high up on the 'rare' register - run of 1000, only one in Oz.

1275 LS's. The reason is simple, rust.

These cars were made in the last years of production and were never properly treated like the early cars were. I don't know if they got lazy or made the panels from rusty steel but they have more problems than others IMO.

Ask anyone you know with a clubman from 77/78 how much rust they have and I bet its more than age should suggest when compared to the early cars.

I've had a 78 Van and 71 Van, the rust in the 78 was worse and it had it in odd places such as the panel under the roof drip rail, the 71 just had it around the rear end (as they all do).

far as I'm aware and have searced the car throught except on the other side of the fuel tank only because I haven't removed it, there's only two tiny little holes in mine and a little spot rust that can easily be fixed. :D :D :D

however proper 850's are bound to be rarer if its all original.

Where are the two little holes?

apart from that only spot surface type rust easily sanded back and fixed.

i have a 1976 LS i was told if fairly rare but you're not wrong about the rust bit... it doesn't help though when the previous people do dodgy rust repairs involving the rubberised spray and pop rivets

Its odd to have rust only in the boot like that, maybe the boot seal isn't as good as it should be or is it from mud underneath? The floor is no surprise, leaking master cylinders will do that on drivers side and usually leaking heater does the passenger side, that's if it's not caused by leaking door rubbers.

In any case yours is probably one of the rarest LS's of all, so liitle rust, make sure you keep on top of it though!

Daniel, I have seen a lot of Minis with the rust there.
They start to form in the corners of the valance, and because it is relatively closed off/boxed in, the rust breeds quicker
