Are you sure they ALL did? for sure the 9F/XE/Y did, but I thought the 1200 etc motors had a 1275 non-S block...
I am not sure what block they used but the 1200 GT motors had all the other Cooper S stuff like close ratio box, electric fuel pump, etc. so I am just assuming....
There was a change of code in 71 right through the Leyland range. So the change from 9F/XE/Y to 1200 may have just been in line with the change of codes.
