Do you know what oil pressure you have now? Low pressure could be a few things, but the most likely is probably your big end bearings, especially if the motor sounds gruff.

Your best bet is to fix whatever the problem is, but if you just want better pressure try a heavier grade engine oil. One of my early Mini's had a totally shagged 1098, and I used to run Penrite HPR50 in it (intended for big V8's or turbo/supercharged engines) which is quite viscous and reasonably stable over a wide temperature range. That probably gave me 10-20psi extra pressure.. didn't stop the engine destroying itself, though...

So what does the gauge say exactly? ie. What does it measure at idle when the engine is hot, and then what does it measure at revs?

This is pretty important before anything can be suggested.

What oil addative did you try? The only thing that I would be worried about would be that the engine and gearbox share the same oil - did the additive you put in there say it was safe for gearboxes?

I am pretty sure the oil pressure is only supposed to be 70psi when driving and it will sit very low at idle so I would say it is fine if it goes over half way with a rev?

Have you taken it for an actual drive?

It doesn't have to go to full scale to give you oil pressure. 20 psi is fine (About 1/5th of the gauge) and half way on a stock gauge is about 50 PSI which is ok as well.

Is the gauge a small 2inch gauge similar to this one (it porobably won't have these graduations):

If it is , and then that is the oil pressure as you have mentioned. If you want to improve it, try an oil change. Make a search on here for the oils that people use and give it a try.

If the oil pressure you are used to when driving drops away all of a sudden, then start to look for problems. If you want to crank it up and the oil change isn't helping, then you can get different oil pressure valve relief springsd to change it.

Sorry I read your second post too fast were it says (when driving)

But any way How far past halfway does the needle go? because halfway is 50psi and like I said 70psi is a good figure for oil pressure while driving at speed (ie. 100km/h)

mine usualy sits at 40 when at idle and is about 60-70ish when driving at 90 depending on how long ive been driving. if i drive for about 30 - 40 minutes it will go down to about 30psi at idle is this ok?

i remember when one of my radiator hoses broke it got down to like 15 when i was driving haha then the smoke came.

oh and min196 with some of ur posts just use a bit of punctuation cause its hard to know what ur talking about :P
