A saw tooth type washer under the big nut holding the flex brake hose to the front sub frame that is.

The parts manual I have only shows the left side and there is one there but the MiniMania online cattledog only shows the right side with the brake light switch and doesn't have it.

Docs right again. My parts list shows the shake proof washer or, as you call it 'saw tooth', on both sides.

Its purpose is to ensure the hoses don't move, twist, and get rubbed by the tiebars.
This is even more important now that many Mini places here only carry the drum brake hoses, not the disc ones (which are slightly shorter).
So you need to twist these a little if used with disc brakes, so they miss. :wink:

Chasing around for the shakeproof star washers - no one has them 5/8" ID not Supercrap or Repco - MM have them for like $4 each and MS have something that sounds like it (no size mentioned) for $2

Finally found a small parts and accessories outlet near home - massive price of 15c each :shock:

Whist we're on this brake pipe/hose subject there's another problem with fitting the new RH (driver's side) hoses to old Minis you may be unaware of.
The depth of the threaded hole in the top end of new hoses is now shorter that original. This means on the RH side, the banjo assembly will not tighten properly onto the copper washer.
The solution is to add an extra copper washer. :wink:
