ok, silly question, use a manual starlet one? cant find one down here.... anything else the same?

also, apart from flywheel + clutch + gear box etc what do u have to do to convert a auto to a manual, have done it on a old datsun but that wasnt efi....

Im having trouble selling a auto front cut, thats all!

so, if anyone has a gear box set up for sale cheep, let me know!

regards, josh

you still trying to sell that. I remember seeing that about a year ago still $1,000 posted? BARGAIN if it is

good news is apparently according to the starlet guys you can use any e-series gearbox (4agze etc) Aussie starlet and MR2 others good too. apparently all line up and pretty much bolt right on. The N/A boxes have a slightly closer and a fractionally lower 5th gear though.

I am only learning toyota motors so apparently their engine code as long as it's FWD and ends in 'e' should bolt on. But check on the aus starlet club website before you rush out on my word, and I don't know if the non starlet boxes will have clearance issues in a mini. I have heard on a 4agze box in a mini with a 4efte tho...hope this helps you

I would say that other than a speedo and reverse pick-up I can't remember any other things connected. I would say as long as theirs nothing massivley electrical in the auto box you will be fine.

I know you are going to a lot of trouble. but you might want to remind any buyers that a auto has a much faster pick up off the lights and even down the 1/4 they will be quicker, as they load up quite hard while stationary with a few revs

..... and unfortunately no way its going to fit in a mini. I would love to have a starlet powered, manualised auto mini but they just won't fit.

A 4AGE geabox is an A series box. It's the second letter that is important, not the last.

What you need is a box from an engine with an "E" as the second letter. The 4EFE box from an Aussie delivered Starlet should fit, although probably has different ratios and may not be as strong. :(

send mini_man a pm hes got a spare na manual box + flywheel

also the "E" at the end of an engine code normally means EFI you need something where the E is the second prefix EG: paseo 5Efe as the 4a is a complely different engine series

4E = engine series F = close angle cameshafts T = turbocharged E = electronic fuel injection

1G =engine series G = wide angle camshafts T= turbocharged E = efi

No matter, your explanation was better than mine anyway. :)

Yep, a Paseo may be a possible donor too. The imported Sera with gull-wing doors also used the 5EFE engine. But I've never seen a manual one yet.

You can fit corolla (4A) gearboxes to 4E engines......but the bellhousings are different apparently, So that part would have to come from a starlet/paseo/sera engine......

You can also fit the 6speed box from the 20Valve blacktop 4AGE.....

But you're best off to source a box from a 4EFTE.....will be the strongest, and have the best suited ratios
