Fabulous meeting....the Armstrong (SA?) Mini was so fast....not that the others were hanging around either....but he was just toying with a Porsche...great stuff :!: Good to see others like Ken Nelson and HistoricRacingS out there having fun too....my sympathies go to John Battersby tho, who took the top off a piston before the racing actually started...bad luck mate :!: :?

I think Ken Nelson got touched on Saturday around Lukey heights. Luckily in the single skinned Sliding Window door!

The start of the Group A race on Sunday was absolutely devastating.

The Torana was in a very sad state

Hi 9yatah (Mick),

Didnt' get a chance to catch up with you at the Island.

Had a very busy weekend. I had to change two radiators (both holed) and two main seals!! due to oil on the clutch. I was pulling 8200rpm in fourth down the front straight and being passed like I was standing still.

Finally got it sorted for the last race and had a great dice with Ian Pringle from SA.
Pretty happy with our midfield results with all our troubles. 3 weeks before the event we didnt have an engine! It was built in under two weeks!

Yeah...such a big weekend....I wasn't looking for you coz you said you didn't think you would have an engine ready....then I started noticing you...the thing certainly looked fast on the track, but you were obviously not getting the power you needed :(

Good to hear you had a good time tho...I certainly did :D

This is about as close as I got to you...cept on the Flag Point maybe! Cheers, Mick

I was there also..... back at work today tho....

Ran Number 86, actually a Nb car... race programme had me incorrectly tagged as a Nc car. Not to worry.

How was the win by the Alpha GTV 2000 in the trophy race?? wow. Their team (Classic Speed Shop in brookvale, sydney) had an interesting weekend, it went like this;

Race 1 - stopped on first lap. wire to the coil snapped. Qualified 4th, didnt finish.
Race 2 - started 42nd, finished 7th.
Race 3 - started 7th, took the lead on lap 3, held on for the win.

Back of the grid to 1st in 11 laps. Top effort.

Was a fun weekend all up - no dramas for me. 8,200 down the shute.... I'm hearing you!

I have a good pic, but no idea how to post it!![/img]

I went on Sunday too. I arrived just in time to see the Nb, Nc race with the #77 mini battling it out with the porsche ... I couldn't believe just how fast the mini was ... and yeah all the mini's in the race were pretty smick too ... dodging and weaving through the field at the start. It was really inspiring ... make's me want to go out and buy Micks Cooper S ;)

I also saw the torana crash in the Group A and C race ... it took ages to get her out of the car ... which was a bit of a worry ... but she look relatively ok. I was down with the Austin Healey crowd when the race restarted and had a chuckle at their comments about it being a "hoon race" and "bogan chariots". Little did they know my first car was a '77 celica and my second an '84 XD.

Another highlight I'd like to share ... the GRIN on the face of the Alfa Sud driver as he sped around during the demonstration laps ... showing off his P Plates to everyone !!
