Any 3 synchro gearset can be fitted into any 3 synchro case.
I once put Mk1 S gears and shafts into an early 850 case that had the old cone `synchros' (that hardly worked).

Why?? it's the only box I had back then.
I then proceded to hack 4 holes in the casing and araldite them, to clear the conrods of a new 1100S short motor. 8)

Whilst I had the motor out of the Cooper for cleaning/painting, I took lots of before and after pics. This is one of the gearbox casing showing the stamp and gear box type number. It is from a 998cc Cooper with remote housing.

that's 22G68 on the front, right? that's the same casing used in a few different models - at least some Morris 1100's for sure, but won't go under a 1275 for the reasons Doc said above - needs holes in it :D

Old thread revival . . .

I know little about 3 synch gearbox cases and need a replacement case for a Mk 1 S rebuild. Have happened across a very good 22G68 case. Simon says above that these cases won't go under a 1275.

Is that right? If so, no point buying it then and need to keep looking . . . . . :(

I reckon a 1275 can be made to spin on a 22G68, they were used on 997 and 998 Coopers. You would need to do a bit of fettling of the front edge and the centre web (usually) with a die grinder.
The example I gave above that needed hacking was an early 850 box.. it was all I had back then.

I have a Morris 1100S box here I'll never use, if it helps you...
1st gear in it is stripped, but the rest seems fine. Going real cheap (beer money). 8)

Not sure of the gearbox number, can check tomorrow. I bought it just for the 1100S donk on top.
