Hey everyone on ausmini, i'm kinda new to the whole forum thing, and i was just wondering if anyone knows how I should go about converting my generator on my mini, to a 15ac alternator that i bought from the wreckers.
The main problem that I know I am going to encounter, is the regulator.
Does anyone know if a 15ac alternator will work properly with the regular lucas RB106/2 regulator? And if they do, plz let me know, as electrical isnt my thing.
Thank-you

The Lucas 15AC works with a TR4 or TR8 Lucas regulator.
It will NOT work with that regular RB106/2 Mini regulator you have already. And you have some rewiring to do to fit the alternator.

Lucas regulators for the 15AC are not easy to get now, instead I'd suggest grab a Lucas 15ACR or 16ACR off a Clubby, they have the regulator built in.
Or you can use a Bosch 65A or 75A alternator off a Pulsar or Falcon EA, or others. Do a search here.

Is the 15AC you have internal or external regulator? If it's got the half plastic backing then it requires an external regulator, if it's fully metal then it's internally regulated (even though it isn't marked as a 15ACR, a bit of a discrepency in the Lucas naming system maybe). As the Doc says, if your converting to an alternator, you're best to avoid externally regulated alternators, it's extra effort for no real reason.

Thanks a bunch guys, you've helped me to answer this question
i think i will trade in the 15ac for a 16acr or 17acr.

I just bought a 12g202 head for my 1100, as i had the 2a629 on my car, and i was wondering how much i will have to shave off the head so that the CR will be good.

202 head was standard on an 1100, so if still stock it is now 8.5:1.
I'd clean the chambers out a little bit, then take 1.5mm off it for now, and run 95 or 98 octane.

Check the head thickness first- stock they were ~2.750".
