I rescued two women with a burning VW beetle.
After I got the fire out the shiela told me that the pipe on the carby that the fuel hose fits onto was loose in the carby and kept falling out, so hubby showed her how to push the pipe back into the carby.
45° day in the western suburbs and the pipe falls off, you can guess the rest. Maybe hubby should have sent the car to a mechanic instead of letting it burn on the side of the road.

LOL found the problem F#@KING CHEAP WIRE caught on a piece of metal rubbed through and shorted on the body ZAP thank go it was cheap cost about 20cents solder and some decent wire to fix :D took 10 minutes now im happy although im keeping the fire extinguisher in case :S thanks for your comments

Idealy wiring shouldnt come in contact with body panels where there are lips, corners etc that could cause it to rub through - its a big vibrating metal tin essentialy and any wiring will foul and rub through eventualy if not protected. Use wiring grommets to feed it through panels and the loom should be wrapped in electrical tape (use that corrigated tubing stuff if you cant be bothered taping everything up - its cheap too).

How long does the gearbox on a Mini burn for? 8)
The plug leads and all other plastics burned off the motor as well as all the oil on the motor just turned to ash, it was a very good way to de-grease an engine.

I have burned a VW motor and box but you need to break it into very small bits to get it to light and you need a lot of heat to get it to burn. I used an oxy to light it but it still took about an hour to light it. It took about 6 hours to burn it out. 8)

I'm sorry but this whole answer is utter bulshit. It might sound mean but why do the people insist on answering when they obviously dont know what the hell they are talking about?

I'm reminded of the old proverb (paraphrased): "Better to remain quite and be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

There are some very smart and capable people on this forum. Unfortunately there are also some who aren't at all, but think they are.

If electricity comes from electrons, does morality come from morons? ;)

I remember a few engines ago, having oil spit out of the breather pipe on the rocker cover, aimed straight at the extractors, causing a nice little fire just below the carb. That was deffinately brown trousers time.

Mini boxes don't burn but they melt nice-
here's one that went through the big Glenorie fire a year or 2 ago- it was in a shed that burned to the ground. Only parts that survived were some Mk1 Cooper S exhaust valves.

speaking of fires, I had to install a fire extinguisher for the sprints series up here. I put it on the floor under the passengers feet.
Where has anyone else put them?
