Driving home from Oran Pk, going the other way, on our own side of the road. Happened within sight of the front gate...

yeah i can personally say that a swift GTI will kick the crap through a mini, in a straight line, under brakes and will hold on around the corners...
our 1310 got whipped bad by our GTi :D

xr6 turbo's are really really really fast, but yea who knows about the fleshy bit inside it, people who cant drive in the hills confidently should stay the hell out of them.. the wankstain wouldnt pull over for me where the passing lane was so i gave him no choice but to let me in..

i am not fond of dragracing a mini, you cant beat anything that anyone would bother to take to the drags i think...

Open question;
If you paid the better part of $40K for a car, and a teenager with an old car that looked it had been painted using a spray can (because it had been painted using a spray can) with "GT" badges on it decides to race you on a public road, would YOU race him?

Nup, neither would I. :)

Reminds me of a few years back when taking the back roads through the hills to a mates house...
I inadvertently got caught up in a 'Krazy Knites' cruise! (Anyone in SA seen this d(ckheads? It's a commy club full of stoners)...
I was keeping a car length or so between the car in front, as all these jokers were screeching to a halt at each corner, up each others clackers! So this hero in a honda decides this is a good spot to stick his lame driving arse.. He picked a really good spot, in front of a blind corner with a car coming the other way  Well if it wasn't for me making the gap quite a bit larger, we all would have been toast!

Needless to say i took the first turn off! I'm all for taking a spirited drive through the twisties, but keep it sensible, please.

As for dragging a mini (i use that term loosely), it's only fun against another mini IMO, otherwise u risk breaking the speed limit 8)

I just got a load of stuff lately (my old mini stuff from the UK) and I found the 1997 mini cooper brochure at the 0-60mph time for the Mpi was 12.2sec.

My best experience not really racing but pissing someone off, was in the UK around 1994. It was a dual carriageway with lots of roundabouts along it about every 2-4km and it’s a 40mph zone, so there was fun to be had on the roundabouts.

One day a Rolls (not too old either) went past me a little quick so I just didn't break for the next roundabout and flew past him. Then he flew past me then on the straight and on the next roundabout I flew past him etc... FIVE time I overtook him!

I was grinning the whole time (I don't think he was) my car was worth his bumper (good old 1100 clubman with 5x10's)! Grinning just thinking about it. :D

i did, but it doesnt count when you put a GTi motor in a mini, or a starlet one for that matter.. i mean.. the GTi isnt turbocharged like a starlet is..

Spiro will outbrake a Gti...

I also know many A-series that will flog a Gti - Ask Kev for one..his 1360 flogs GTi's..

but why do people insist that because their engine is bored out that it is like some kind of performance engine? I've driven a 1310 that was slower than my 1152 - I've also driven one that absolutely flogs the balls of Gti's and the like..

I am glad so many people here are driving gods. The limitation of your car handing, safety and performance wise is the idiot behind the wheel.

I would love to get some of the oldtimers here on a track with the young heroic brigade and show them how its really done.

but given how some of the clergical in dress are carrying on, maybe a seat if F1 is only days away, sprayed black of course with s badges.

The only drags on streets should be at Mardi Gras.

As a person you drives a car that is a magnet for black cars in from the aerosol school of art - I must agree with Speedy - most people couldnt be bothered - so any claim of my car is better than your walking frame is mostly pointless.

i got owned a couple of times, once was this old bloke in a toyota hilux, man he could drive. he looked in his rear vision mirror and smiled and took off, drove like a god, he had so much control.
another time it was this knob in a lexus 4wd, but he had no style, it was pissing with rain and he was hitting curbs and all.
should def keep things to the track, and i normally dont drag, if i wanted to i wouldnt be driving a mini. but if i do drag its just to the speed limit, i only enjoy speeding around corners.
one thing that does crap me about street racing (if you call it that) is if your on a double lane street (4 lanes total, 2 in each direction) and you and another car are approching the bend, stick to your lane, inside or out.
craps me when i want to overtake a person on the bend and they take the outside then the inside etc.
keep it on the track

I see the stickers absolutely everywhere on street signs etc...

But until now I didn't know what the hell it meant.

Are they similar to Ragerz Kar Klub?

i recently did the AMMI insurance skilled drivers course. this involved complex hard manuevers such as turning and stopping was great fun. i was told to do a slalom at 50kph (supposedly impossible) :D the driving instructor said its the first time in 7 years hes been scared not to mention the speechless girl in need of a new pair of pants in the back seat. i didnt realize that if u turn the wheel really hard it doesnt understeer but grips to the point of going up on 2 wheels :D this was all in completely controlled conditions btw extemely fun also if ur full prepared a mini can do a lane change at 50 with one seconds notice and avoid objects on the road also supposedly impossible i still got the idea tho
