Not mini related - but I need info and you lot have a clue. (some of you )

On my regular blast through the northern wilds, the Exxon Valdez has split a FI hose. I need to move it appox 1km to a place where I can park it until parts arrive.

I have some suitable water hose handy. The water hose is pressure rated to standard that would allow its substitution.

My question is what is the impact in using water rated hose for fuel as a stop gap (1km) for my split FI hose, so at least it will be safe. My concern is for the injectors if sludge comes off the hoses. I have never seen how water hoses react to fuel so I am flying a little blind.

Why dont I use fuel rated hose instead? - cant get any of the correct diameter that will handle the pressure.

Petrol leaches the plasticisers & embrittles rubber water hoses,
but it's not an instant thing.

Would probably last for weeks before perishing & spraying fuel over your hot engine...

I just bought some of that "self weld" tape for some electrical work and note on the packet that you can use it on garden hoses and such like. May work to hold it together for 1 Km. Does say it doent like solvents and oil but I think that would be external and take a while.

bloke could you splice in abit of metal tube the right diameter to fix it

like and airline fitting that you use on air tools with the barbs on the end so it dont slip off onder presure

Ingenious idea!

Having said that it might be reasonable to assume that the condition of the hose has deteriorated causing the split. If the hose hasn't fit the barbed insert and whack on some hose clamps for good measure.

Job done with the water hose - had to depressurise the FI first - cut the pipe - and used the existing clamps and away she went. No leaks.

Replaced it with the old when I got there so the petrol wont eat the hose.

I should have the new hose am tomorrow so I can go home. Then i will replace all the others.
