hi, i'm due for a new set of shock, i have shocks which are all different types because it didn't pass it's road worthy. but it's time for a full set of new ones.

Going by your title - the best shocks for a mini are having a semi trailer finally skid to a stop just six inches from the front of your mini.

A serious answer to your question is any set that match and dont leak fluid.

Shockies vary enormously in price and performance but honestly you have to examine what you are doing with the shockies. If its just sensible daily and city driving then any of the name brands will do.

If you are doing very spirited driving on rural roads then a bit more money is justified to a set of sports type shockies. If your doing racing or sprints etc, then you have no other choice but to get the best rebound matched or adjustable types.

For normal driving - the difference between name brand "ordinary" and performance type shockies is barely noticeable. For spirited driving it is noticable. For racing, well yes - you are talking seconds here.

All I have said is in the presumption of good working shockies.

20% is a big claim. I wonder how he measures it. (sounds like a lot of hot air to me)
Gas shocks with the same valving as a non-gas shock will handle the same. They just may not handle the same after they warm up.

`Gas shocks' is a misnomer, they DO run on oil. They are simply filled with nitrogen on assembly to maintain damping stability.

you need to go and talk to someone who sells shocks i think..

i didnt think you could get mini shocks from anywhere but a mini place, but my mini has pedders shocks on it, and you can get gabriel shocks for minis too for instance.

i am assuming you want to set your fully sik 1360 up for the touge, in which case
its a fact that a car thats to stiff in the suspension will have problems getting the power down and will be slower over rough roads.

to really take advantage of a big brand name shock you need to spend money on adjustable camber/caster and nolotahanes. So unless you want to spend a fortune I would stay with a cheap gas shock. Gas shocks are pretty good under pressure. A oil shock under hard loads will heat up and will become soft, where as a gas shock will run cooler and remain consistent. obviously theirs a limit to it's perfomance but it's a bit better than the standard oil shocks

i personally wouldn't spend too much money, shop around and check out warranty's

is it possible to et pump up shocks for a mini? and what are they worth?? one of my shocks died on my mk1 when it was on the trailer, covering my fresh paint with oil but no harm done

Pump up `air shocks' are designed for load carrying, particularly sagged leaf spring rear ends, and 4WDs.
Never seen em for a Mini...
Re brands, I've had Pedders on my hydro car for over 10 years, they are still good.
I'm pretty sure they are rebadged Gabriel Red Riders, they look the same to me.
I have 4 Konis on the wife's car (dry suspension)- expensive, I think they are a bit soft on standard setting, but will outlast the car...

Short answer what ever you can afford, if money's no issue buy Bilsteins, Josh & myself have just put them into our cars $750 for a set of 4.

Bang for your buck are the Lipp brand of shocks, they wont break the bank and they really are a good shock and heaps cheaper than the bilstein/koni/spax norms. They are manufactured by the same mob that do all the work for QH and made in Europe - not china. I have them on my mini and they are just getting a bit spongey after just 120,000km - good value for money for about 200 rods.

Keep your bilsteins for the track or the bling bling circuit...

I had a Koni shocker on my bike when I got it, I'd been told that Koni's will outlast the bike. Problem is, I think this particular Koni had already outlasted a few bikes prior, when I went to get it rebuilt, the shaft and housing were completely knackered! Was a good shock though.

I prefer the gas-adjust for ride (KYB) but when i do a hydro upgrade (fitting shockers to a still hydro car) i run the gabriels as they are a firmer harder to lift shocker.
