hey guys,

yesterday the guys at work told me that my headlights in the mini aint as bright as they should be and also that my high beam isnt working would this be caused from a bad earth somewhere? if so where from if it is something that happens often to most minis?

Have you checked the globes actually work? If your low beams work then u at least have an earth or no worky at all...
Too dim, what wattage, are u running relays, how big is the cable, has it been replaced with smaller gear.
Start with nice new globes first is my advice.

They probably think they are too dim because they aren't familiar with sealed beams - what line of work are these guys in?

Was thinking the same thing speedy.
If u have a multimeter, check A- you have 12v on both low and high beam B- use the ohm setting and try across the elements on the globe.
One has to be out. And yeah if sealed beams, light a match, they should be just a bit brighter than that.

they are mechanics, but one owns are gemini with sealed beams so im not sure to me they seem dim as well cause its hard to see at nite and my highbeam doesnt come on it goes dimmer

If he's a mechanic, ask him to back up his opinion by finding the bad earth (damn you global warming! ). Otherwise, you may want to get a qualified auto electrician to look at it.

When that happened to me it was RIGHT at the end of the wire, where they plug straight onto the light fitting. One of the metal clips had loosened and just needed a little convincing with the pliers.

As sox said, grab a multi-meter and see.

Stock sealed beams, no relays, old wiring and probably high resistance.. And maybe high resistance connectors at the lamp/switch and so on.... Mini lights=dull lights, its part of the design.
