This thought backs up my theory that all Mini owners are tightarses in one way or another.

How many wheels have you seen or bought that have little to NO tread at all left on them?

How did they get like this? These wheels must have been driven on the road to get like this! That's the scary thought.

I have many a set of wheels (and seen many a set) with very very bald tyres.

It makes me laugh.

End of thought.

willy, you've just answered your own question.

Personally I've seen none, the tyre usually has the tread, not the wheel.

Yes I once saw a motorbike with the rear tyre completely bald. At least he'll only kill himself.

My bugbear is people with faulty headlights who drive with one light out and the other on high beam to compensate - change the bulb people, it's not that hard!
Cheers

Hahah agreed.

But my question was how many wheels have YOU seen...
So I wasn't answering a question for myself, as far as I can see.

I can take some pics of the wheels on my project if you like!

All four wheels are very illegal.

And i'd love to know how long they were driven for in their poor state :P

Hehehe, one of my mates, who you know, but won't say his name, was driving on a bald tyre on his mini for a couple of days until chunks started flying off, then the dodgy but legal spare came out.

Luckily for him he called around and found some mini tyres really cheap. 8)

Yes willy, mini people are tight arses with tyres, take a look at my Mabor's (which are not on the car, as my Dunlop's are) still legal? Yeah, but safe?....That's another story...

So you mean that 60's retreads with the sides lifting is bad ?

I know what you mean , nearly all I've bought over the years have either had the belts showing or one side bald the other with half tread . Maybe that's why they are for sale cheap a lot (the most I've ever paid is $125 for a set of 5 perfect contesta's) , it's easier to buy a package deal now of tyres/mags then it is to just get new tyres .

hahaha funny you should mention it, I have 12 second hand wheels and tires here and there is only one that would "just" pass as a spare.

It's near impossible to wear a motorbike tyre down to completely bald because of the curvature, it usually goes to canvas in the middle first.

It might have been a racing slick?

OK fair enough Mick, I was taking poetic license as most guys here would'nt care about bikes. It was an old GN250 and the middle portion of the tyre was devoid of tread, the two edges had a feathered appearance with about two threads before the shoulder on each side. It wasn't down to canvas, but there was no tread evident.

I ride a CBR600F, so I would recognise a slick tyre. And if he wants to ride a slick on the road, he is even crazier!

the only time i had cheap tyres was when a mini shop here (which i cant name, but lets face it you know which one in melb) ripped me off on a tyre and rim pakage. i ended up with kuhmo's, and i changed to yoko's in 3 months.... the kuhmos still have heaps of tread left but i got the tyre place to chuck them out.

Not for minis their not!!! tyres cost money. If you owned a stock commodore, bridgstone RE92's would cost you $130-$140 a corner. If you have 17" wheels then nearly double that.

You can get 10" Yokohama A008 for $95 per corner fitted. That, in my book is cheap!

At the end of the day, cars cost money, no escaping that...
