Hey guys! long time no post (i mostly just read these days )

Hope you guys aren't getting annoyed with all these questions , if you are, just ignore me

Anyway, as the title suggests, if all goes well, ill be going to have a look at a morris cooper s (1965) which has been mechanically completely restored approx 10 years ago (no km's since)

only problem is it needs a repaint And, its all in bits (engine is complete but no attatched etc)

Sounds nice from what ive heard, i know however you cant just judge a car from what you hear.

Anyway, there's no real reason for why im posting this... i guess i should ask what i should look out for? any questions ishould ask prioir to viewing etc

Oh, and from this very horribly written description, what price range should i be looking at spending (or how much would you spend!). I'm assuming i would need to lay a couple of grand away for a respray too.

When buying a "genuine" Cooper S, nothing is as good as history.

You need to be 110% sure it's a REAL one, as you will waste alot of money if it isn't.

i would suggest that many of the rubber seals will have perished if it has sat around for 10 years and will need to be replaced.

as for price, you have to assess that car and your budget. if you want to be uncompromising and get a genuine cooper s then you will be expecting to pay more than someone who has made a better performing car out of a deluxe by droppping in a big block engine and disc brakes.

its a tricky question bro, best to post pics imo, check for things taht make it genuine, ie numbers and id tag etc, little clips on the rh sand on the back of the back seat for the breather hose etc

Every car you find siting in bits in somebody's garage has been "completely overhauled" atleast a decade ago and magicaly they've never driven it since. I'd say if a car is in need of a resto and is siting in bits you treat it as a complete resto case and pay accordingly. An engine that has supposedly been rebuilt a decade ago but never assembled is as good as one in need of a complete rebuild (if only because you'll still have to check everything to make sure its been done properly and then to assemble an engine correctly is a major task too.

Make sure its a complete car and originaity, matching numbers and history as said are paramount. Having all the parts there is hugely important as chasing up obscure parts is a major effort and expense. Dont however let the "overhauled 10 years ago" crap make you overpay.

It's had the front replaced with a later model replacement (English Mk3+??).

For a 65 Cooper S, it shouldn't have flairs, so they have been added sometime in its life.

These photos are pretty meaningless as they're of the car is different stages of its life and you dunno what condition its in now. And yea the front panel seems like a UK sourced replacement w/o the Cooper S diagonal brace or even the ordinary MK1/2 vertical brace.

If it is a 65 Cooper S it would never have had the diagonal brace.

Some of the fellas on here are very sharp with cooper authentication. post a few photo you have taken but even I see this as a mini that at best has been fiddled.

With the front replaced, it follows that the brace isn't there.

There's quite a bit of further information to be gathered her first. detail pics of the boot might help, as well as the interior etcetera. Floor pan near the door as well.
