is there any way i could remove the block from the gear box and pull it up though the car rather then disconnecting it from the car and pulling the car up over it
?/ any tips?

Pull the whole engine and gearbox assembly out the top.
Remove bonnet,
remove gear shift extension,
Remove carbs and manifolds,
Remove dizzy,
Remove starter motor,
Remove gauge wirining etc.
Undo engine mounts,
out she comes. (don't forget the speedo cable when half way.)

Be careful, if you don't know what you are doing, and how to do it safely, pay someone else.

so its physically possible nice i always removed the suspension left the engine attached and puule the body over the car

got the entire engine dissconnected and ready to pull out by myself in 4 hours in 35 degree heat then realized i dont have any way to lift the engine out of the car by myself :( opps

did i forget to mention the engine crane and lifting bracket oops :lol:
