Hi all,

thinking of getting genuine seats correct for my GT as I had heard that by 1972 (mine is December, 72) safety laws required head rests. Can anyone verfiy this AND if so, does anyone have pic of this type of seat from the period?

ta,

minichick

Hi Elle,

I spoke to Jason about this when he had the car. Apparently, when being recovered, the upholsterer just covered over the holes for the headrests - or never cut them in to the new vinyl. The mechanisms for them will still be there. You should contact Jason to see if he still has the headrests.

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

that's great, thanks for the info...I'll call Jason, however, he gave me all the spares and bits so I figure he hasn't got them. I shall start a search for some headrests. If you come across some holla my way...

thanks

elle
PS. was in Auckland in January. Next time I'm there I'd love to see your GT's....

A quick update re a very happy ending. I ebayed Jason and he kindly has offered to give the headrests to me even though I offered to buy them. He said he had lost my number and that they are indeed from my GT. Thought I'd thank him publicly and say what a good mini-person he is....thankyou, thankyou heaps...My GT is so excited to get her headrests back! Will have to be re-trimmed in the blue vinyl and now the seats will have to be re-trimmed as well to reveal the holes for the headrests! At least now I'm on the way! Thanks to all posters especially Anton who started me thinking about my headrests when I read his update about his GT restoration in the Mini Experience mag about his re-trimming issues.

cheers,

elle

Well done Elle! A very good move to get those seats right for your GT's production date.

What a champ Jason is!

Elle,

If over here - do get in contact. All you should need are the chrome rings to go around the hole in the seat vinyl - for the HR stems to pass through. If you can't locate any, I think they are standard across all HR seats, let me know - I'm sure i could find some in my garage!

Gavin
