Hey guys, was flicking through my latest Street Machine Magazine and found this article, thought a few people here would be interested (I would be if I already didn't have ½L of custom mixed paint still sitting in my garage).

This is taken from the April 2007 Street Machine Magazine on page 16, I have taken out the least relevant bits.

"...the US military needed to deveop a quick and easy way to touch up the camoflaged paint scheme on damaged vehicles without removing it from active duty. So it developed Colormatch, the self matching paint. Spray it on and once dry, the high tech spectrogramatic ingredient perfectly colour-match to the surrounding paint....it's like having 1000 colours in a single can!....

It relies on the same basic physics that our eyes use to distinguish different colours - fequency.

When UV hits a solid surface, it is reflected at a slightly different fequency depending on the surface colour, a phenomena known as reflectance. Colormatch relies on reflectance to correctly align its unique spectrographic molecules when drying. Once dry it reflects the light at the exact same frequency as its surroundings, making it a perfect colour match.

Only availible through selected specialty automotive paint outlets.

...call 1800 MATCH UP (6282487) for details on stockists"

Thought some of you might be interested - when I run out of paint I'm going to look into this.

It was out the 21st of March - but I got it a bit earlier than that because I have a subscription - so no april fools jokes (I don't think).

I didn't put the whole article on but I thought if its a spray can surely it wouldn't cost too much and if it didn't work well you didn't waste too much money on it.

Each to their own.

Yeah this is true stuff, I called them up after a little research on the web.

They bought out a special paint a few years ago for graphic artists. It sprays striped paint right out of the spray can!
