hey guys
i have been working on my new thermo set up and wanted to know does anyone else have a electric fan, i have mine but it does nt seem to want to suck that hard, put my hand next to the gaurd where the air goes out and it blows dust and dirt well away from the car, but it just doesnt want to suck any air through the radiator,

im thinking of having an emergency overhaeting button in which will reverse the circuit and blow air in to the engine bay but i would only use this at a stand still,

is the thermo fan flush against the radiator and sealed?

what he said.... must be sucking air from beside the radiator. Mine worked great, it'd suck an A4 piece of paper about 8" across the engine bay and up against the radiator (with no motor in the car of course)

If you have mounted it to the shroud under the guard, then it will suck air through the gap between the radiator and the guard.

Either mount it hard against the radiator, or fit a 3/4 inch strip of rubber in the gap between the guard and the radiator like it was from the factory.

its flush up against the radiator and ive (tempoarly) taped up the sorrounding to the radiator but it helps a little

if this is the case, i remember being told that for a prop does nt matter what size or complex its still only designed to shot water one way, shot water the other way and it swishes everthing around and has a smaller amount of force,

but even still i think it should have more effect on what it is doing, is there anyother way to seal it

Not in Australia.

The rad shroud has little clips pressed into it facing toward the crack, this is what held the seal. ( I cut one out of a piece of thin rubber sheet) But this is not your problem here as you have it mounted up hard against the radiator.

Have you installed a new radiator or is the old one free from bent fins and cleaned out?

new radiator,

i took the fan out and sat it only the floor, got each of the terminals and put them on the + and - of the battery and it blows alot harder,

so i installed a relay and it blows alot harder,

how i had it before was i divided the ignition wire in 2 and had one run to the fan, but i cant see how this would have affected the fan as to not be able to suck all that much, never the less now it sucks

perhaps it was your connections that were crap as well. there should have been enough to supply from the ignition, but only just as it has to come through the dodgy old ignition switch. But obviously it works heaps better. Good work.

Make sure you have the fan blades around the right way. Gotta 'cup' the air and scoop it through. Fans always suck better than they blow, too.

A shroud will make the biggest difference to the effectiveness of a fan, otherwise you're just blowing air around.
