Don't buy any cheap mini as your first car, I have mine, my first mini, was totally gone with rust, so I was planing to sell it piece by piece... I was ripped off I paid $2500... i thawt it would eb cheap rust repairs, but it was much more than i thawt

Then i found my current mini, i thought it was a great buy $1200, until i took it to MiniCraft and get a look over... The engine block was cracked and was running on 2 cylinders, needed new brakes and much more, and plus paint work got worse as i drove it more..(weathered) So i paid another $1200 to get the car working....

My grandad helped my get a 96 Rav4, wasn't the car for me, i wrote it off in an accident and had to give insurance payout back to grandad and back to my mini... WHich was fine

this lasted me until last week the car started running crap, took it back down to minicraft and got them to look at it, it needed $500 worth of repairs...

So got the car back fine on tuesday after the lovely bill, was driving car last nite on freeway home. And i hear a huge knocking noice from the engine, so I pull over to find that there is white smoke comming out of my rocker cover, CONROD Looked at oil... none SO got it back on tuesday working fine now today i am stuck without a car Now it's either a re-build or a new engine...... What makes it worse is that I am soo young and have no money due to fixing car this week and only earning apprenticeship wages.........

thats a sucky story, the moral being to get any car you buy checked out properly first i think.

I have a mini for sale for $2000, and it is quite good!, you just need to know what you're looking at, or even better get it checked out by someone who does..

i know i sold my first mini to a girl, who asked me to take it down to the local mini place to get a checkover so she knew what she was buying..

and yea you want a 1275 so then you can tell all the boys yours is bigger than theirs LOL

A mini as a first car is fine IMO.
I have had no real dramas with my car. 998 with drums and i was happy. Reliable and fun with character to go with it... Go with a pretty standard mini and you should be fine, and if you're interested, it's a basic car to get to learn the mechanics in.

1275 and discs are nice, and if u want the extra performance later it will be cheaper (still won't make it the best). Though not to say a 1100 isn't worth building up. If anything, look for discs, your brakes can never be too good.

I love my roundie, but my first mini was a leyland mini S, and i grew to love that aswell (in the short time i had it). Had a few luxuries like a heater and retractable seat belts. It would be a younger car and possibly cheaper than a roundie of equal quality. With the guards they look sweet! Don't rule a nice clubbie out at the right price, they're still cool

Yeah I was joking. I meant that I boguht a 1275 and discs and thought 'yeah this will be fine, no need to upgrade', now it has a supercharger under the bonnet. Not that I am complaining.

all she needs is a stock small bore she doesnt need anythin with performance

plus might help to get ur licence first miss too see if u like drivin a mini daily

Yeah, I dont want anything for performance, just the basics to start off with.

And, I dont care if I dont like driving a mini as my daily. I'll be driving it whether I like it or not

Smallbore/bigbore... still get some discs either way, if a daily driver.

yea but also just personally i wouldnt like drivin an 850 everyday from central coast to hombush i rekon id much prefer to be driving a 1275 at least it wont be pushing the engine as much just dnt get into the habit of putting ur foot down but its always good to have that extra bit of power under the bonnet
