So does that mean YG2S2 could have been a late YMG2S2 equivalent?? Kinda like a YMA2S2 but with a G instead of the MA? Why would it have a factory 9Y engine with a G prefix plate though????

Probably need to align body number with the known S numbers around the time to perhaps get an idea. It's not a quirky mk 1.5?

I believe the changeover ( no "G") occurred circa. Dec 69/Jan 70 - at least in the Cooper S Mk II range.

You probably meant (no "K") right?

Leyland took over BMC in March 68.

They dropped the second digit from the prefix when the new models started in 69.

Not a chance. There was no YMG2S2, there was a YKG2S2 but the later version of it is a YG2S4.

Does anyone have a Factory Parts Book for the K? It would help me sort this out.

Yes, I know there isnt any record of a YMG2S2 being built, but how can you be so sure that there wasnt a YMG2S2??? I mean, I cant find any documentation that says YG2S2 was ever created either....

Bit more info on this car, it says YG2S2 - 8895.

sounds like somebody at the factory was taking the piss. anybody else have some weird numbers?
my 850 shell, matching body numbers and plate, on the radiator shroud has a slightly diff number
eg.
body 12345
plate 12345
radiator 12346
panels have never been changed, no evidence and its too close and unlikely for somebody to pick up another shroud etc etc
i think the guys at the factory were drunk or thought it was funny

I have seen 2 mini's with YG2S2 so they do exist , but I took them to be mini K's , no idea now what they were but the plates were definitely stamped YG2S2 .

I would assume so.

Went to my local expert, a guy who can give you a part number for 99% of mini parts from memory, and even he couldnt tell me.

Just like everyone else, he said "well, YKG is Cooper, should have a 9F engine number"

Same answer that didnt help.
