Hey there ladies and gents,

Would you like to give me an idea about this please.

I adjusted my brakes about 2 weeks ago and had a solid pedal that went down maybe quarter of the way....maximum.

The pedal is now going down about 2/3 to the floor but they are still really good (for drum brakes). They pull me up ok but maybe something needs replacing (flexible hoses.....brake shoes).

How do I check the hoses??? Get some-one to press the pedal and look at for a possible bulge in the hose?? How much 'meat' should there be on the brake shoes??

Thanks

Can't help you with the meat part, but brake hoses generally have a five year recommended life. If they are older than that, a new set wouldn't hurt.
:D

If you have some hose clamps, you can identify the offending "wheel" by process of elimination. It sounds more like an adjustment problem ie the adjuster(s) are backing themselves off when the brakes are operated, due to wear/looseness. I think the only cure is to fix the adjusters somehow or swap the backing plate(s) which is a real bugger

Yer....I'll pull the wheels and drums off over the next few days and have a real good looky down there.

I know that some people have to adjust their drum brakes on their minis about every month, but I've not had to touch them in months. Now, I've adjusted them over a period of a few weeks. Just unusual with this mini.

Anyway, I'll have a look. But they still work good :D

Hooroo

If you have to adjust every month, you either have new brakes, you are driving like a maniac or (like Pete said above) YOUR ADJUSTERS ARE LOOSENING OFF...they can be replaced and they can be tightened up with a centre punch ( )
