Ive put on order in through Brickworx for custom Rover.

I have never owned a Rover Mini, I have only ever owned or restored the classics.

New one will be Fuel Injected and have 8.4" discs...a nice step up from drums all around.

What are the main differences between old skool and classics ?

Any pros and cons ?

Is Fuel Injection much better than a Webber ?
Does aircon eat a heap of power when operating ?

Air conditioning requires 3hp (verified at the wheels) to run. Regarding the fuel injection, do a search and you find that if you are chasing power, then a carby is right option for you.

I've never owned a fuel injected one nor an aussie mini, however I can tell you one of the cons is that the Rover interiors whilst comfortable, do eat into the interior space a lot more than the older cars. That said, I've had my car for 15 months now and its been good fun and reliable. 8)

At the moment I am chasing reliable power, rather than as much power as I can possibly get...if that makes sense.

If the 1275 in the rover runs like the hot 1100 in my Purple Clubbie I owned (45bhp at the wheels) I will be happy.

Room doesn't really bother, I'm not the largest of people anyways, I found my classic minis to be QUITE roomy inside anyways, loosing a bit of space will just make it cosier, lol.

I'm guessing Steve is going to shoehorn in a later model 1275 with injection into your car? Have you picked a car yet?

I have seen pictures of this car -

Apprantly it will hit our shores in 8 weeks or so.

Will be 1.3l EFI, 8.4" discs, air con etc etc.

Budget allows me to get myself something a bit custom, so I can mix and match stuff and get some nicer rims and some extra stuff like cooper fog lights and the nice leather interior. I'll see how it pans out once I get some cash to Steve and then start getting really serious about what I can afford and what is doable.

In that pic all I would do would be get rid of those flares, fit 13x7" rims, fit sportspack arches, put on some foglights on the front bumper and get rid of those mirrors and just run one on the drivers side.

by speedy's last dyno day read out mini A/C systems use about 3hp. which in Speedy's case is substancial.
Fuel injection genreally won't be better performance wise, but it should be much more economical. fuel, and service wise. Fuel will be poured down it's gullet efficently and the computer will be constantly deciding how much, so there is no need to tune it as such, hence the lower servicing costs.

If you want more power there are the std mods that can be done like old school mini's. Pod filter's, manifold's of course an oversize engine rebuild blah blah blah. Once these sort of mods are done though, i would guess you need to get an aftermarket computer to tune it for performance as the std one will just adjust the car back to std tune i would think. I'm not 100% sure how much can be done tune wise on the std computer. It may be worth asking the question to steve if it is something you may want to do at a later date.

-some of the differences i have seen,
- the subframes are rubber mounted.
top subby bolts are one big old bolt each side.
-Brake master cylinder and booster are one unit(this is on the later -models, not sure at which point they changed over to them)
-fuel tank is larger type and has built in fuel pump
-fuel lines are substancially bigger
-more room at the front of the motor, as there is no dissy(woohoo, no more scraped knuckles)
- there is a plastic strip that goes around the roof seam
- the flares tend to be screw on type ( not my cup of tea, but there you go)
- front seats are heavily padded so the seat position seems more constrictive. (only an issue when your my size and this is based on sitting in speedy's rover, it could just be that car?)
i'm sure there are more differences, but that's some of them.

Hope that helps

Good to see you back and now all we need is the get small bore turbo building, rotormoke dreaming guy back

Cheers
Aaron

Tons more!

I got some 1989 Mayfair seats, and yes, they are very comfortable.

The 1.3i should be about 50hp at the wheels I'd think.

Only the MPI minis were dizzy-less. Still had em till '97.
They're electronic anyway, so you wouldn't change it.
