Hi fellas ...... looking for opinions on what an unregistered 1982 Moke Californian is worth?
1) it is totally disassembled
2) 2 spots of rust - battery box and behind drivers seat
4) Been rubbed back and needs paint & the above rust repaired
3) Motor has been machined and is ready for assembly (30 thou)
4) Sub-frames and Sunraysia wheels have been painted in 2 pac but not installed
5) Front and rear bars are there but need re-welding and painting
6) Canopy is there but needs replacing
7) Heater is there
8) Not registered

He is asking $4000 and is firm – curious on what you think it is worth

Cheers

If it's a 998, $4,000 sounds too much IMO. There are risks associated with buying abandoned projects, as I learnt the hard way when I bought a MkII "S" in pieces

Unless he can show you receipts for $3000 worth of work to the motor and gearbox he's asking a bit much in my opinion , if the engine bits have been professionally rebuilt and everything else you mention done (2 pack painted subframes and wheels etc) then I'd be saying around the $2,000 tops . What do others think ?

Sounds quite high. What about brakes? They are a big dollar item.

For a fairly good time sale I'd say $4,000 , you could hold out for a little more but could take a while .

A rebuilt Moke is worth about 16K (according to this mob) or half that for a good one any where else.

A Sydney Californian in good nick went for $11.3K on ebay 3 weeks ago, despite having a $9K Buy It Now price.
