on the forum i admin, i find it easier to disable the user, rather than delete them. that way they will need a new email address each time, and can't just reuse one from before.

banning via IP is useless, 'cos they always use different ones.

there's really no easy way of dealing with them.

So you can't delete the user and ban the email from being reused?

I just wonder how many of our 5000 odd users are just bots that have been banned? Why not go through and delete them and give us a more accurate idea of active membership. WOuldn't be above 500 I don't think.

PS...our newest user is "annanicoleEXPERT".....can't wait

Banning IP isn't completely useless... but I only bother with re-offending IP address' for that reason.

Please PLEASE, for the love of you local deity, STOP voicing your frustration at the posters of porn spam.

There IS NOT a person on the end of it.

They are logged in, generated automatically by scripts.

So please stop swearing at them. It's pointless.

I don't understand Cush, why would you start this thread and then reply to spammer with the Grandmas today? :?

20-30 day to sign up will mean you loose a whole lotta potential members.

It may be a whole lotta work for mods, but why not have a few email exchanges before you get to post....I for one would put my hand up as a volunteer to field enquiries to take the load off the mods.

I visit a few other forums and they don't seem to suffer from this crap...therefore, it can't be too hard to stop the spammers in their tracks.

Google is your friend???

Why not make them fill out 20 words when they join about why they want to join Ausmini and what there interests in Minis are.

If they've got to think up something to write, maybe they would think it's all too hard and go elsewhere. If they write meaningless crap, reject them.

Toymods seems to have no spam anymore, but they reject something like 75% of applications due to most being spammers.

I say again...you shouldn't be making it too hard for people to join up (please remember that a lot of people do not have computer skills (but do have Mini skills!!!) and you risk losing them because they will give up in disgust if its all too hard).

Other forums manage to deal with this crap transparently....anyone looking into how they do it :?:
