it is getting absolutely rediiculous. i dont own a mini and i definately cannot afford to buy one so this forum is the next best thing for me and i spend hours and hours a day just readnig other peoples posts trying to take in as much as possible... but with all the spam it makes it very annoying to find the ones i haven't read... does anyone know why it has happened all at once?it seems one day there was no spam and then the next day the flood gates opened. anyway im just another annoyed ausminier :D

Could we be getting targeted by a disgruntled former member?

Unlikely Mike, it is probably a team of disgruntled former members

Poeee / mods,

I'm tech director for an anti-spam company, MailGuard (no, this is not going to be an ad ;) ) We filter spam from email primarily and have never worked on forum spam, but with URL spam specifically (which is what seems to be posted here) we have some tricks which I'd be happy to share with ausmini, gratis naturally.

PM if you're interested..

I agree with the whole report thing.

I've seen it used on numerous forums, i think it's all just about what version of the forum you're using.

For the last few days that I have been on here I must say that the 2 new additions to the anti-spam team (Boho and Mick) have been doing an excellent job. I haven't come across 1 porn / pills posts etc in days.

Good job guys.

Must be a big help to the other mods too, not so over-whelmed now.

No, it's a new technique that Scott has been using to prevent them from posting that has stopped the spam. It's worked a treat so far as it means the spammers have got to make an effort to be able to post.

Well whatever it is / whatever poeee is getting them to do is working a treat. It's so much easier to read the posts on here if every second one isn't spam.

Thanks Poeee.

Cheers. I'm now activating accounts manually, it's not user activated any more.

Excellent. Thanks appears to have done the trick. If the registrations get to much feel free to spread the love.
