sounds like a good plan. Heritage have a catalogue in the mail on its way to me, so i'll probably get cracking once it arrives. there's a Jag repair place in the next block from my place, so i could get them to fit everything for me i guess.

Try and get proper S/S or aluminium bands to hold the CV boots on. The cable ties that come in the boot kits just don't work properly. Eh, Anton...

Can get from your local C/V repairer, if you pester him. Mine cost a whole $0.50 each..

Finally got my wheel bearings done today courtosy of my brother. Now i know how to do them its not that harder job just a few little tips he gave me if i ever have to do them again. Saved about 150 bucks worth of labour soo i am happy. It turned out that it was only the left rear that was the problem but we still changed both rear wheels and now its really quiet. Thanks Anton for pointing them out saved alot of agony if they ever did cease up.

as arron pointed out to me returning from a recent BBQ my rear wheels have too much + camber and they also toe in, will have to get a adjustable camber/track brackets or can that be fixed with a wheel balance and alignment now that my bearings have been replaced.

I wouldnt bother with installing tapered roller bearings on the rear of the car, they dont cop anywhere near the loading that the front bearings have to deal with(unless yer doing handbrakie's and stuff).

I also recommend replacing the corresponding part I.e. Both wheel bearings. No use driving down the road 100 k's just after you've replaced one to find out you have to replace the other. Something the army has to learn, in my opinion.

I agree with PhildoD, Timkens in the rear are nice but they are overkill for street use. There's no weight there- just keep the stock ball bearings greased and they will last for years!

what sort of difficulty rating would replacing both CV joints, boots (and clips!), and wheel bearings carry do you guys think? i'm tempted to have a go at it with my dad. are there any major things i should watch out for?

if it's looking too hard, i might take it down the road and let them do it, 'cos i gotta move house in just over a week or so, and if i fiddle sticks up the repair, then it's going to make moving the car a nightmare.

That was the first major job I did on my clubby.

Ended up being a day job all up. First side took about 4 hours or so, second side not quite as long obviously (yeah yeah, I took my time)

If ya have a gregory's or hayne's manual, it will help a bit.

Make sure the tail of the CV boot clips faces opposite the direction of forward travel, so they dont unwrap.

Use half the grease on the cv joint, and smear the other half in the boot.

Depending what sort of inner joints you have fitted will depend on what you have to do to get the CV out.

If you have disc brakes, taking the inner races off the axle may make the job longer. If you have drums, make sure that the outer race hasnt worn out the hub. If the hub is worn, then the wheel bearings may not clamp up properly.
