juz was thinking of how to stop my dizzy getting wet and a guy a work told me an old trick they use to do when he worked at rover on some minis they use to use a dishwashing rubber glove and put it over the dizy and have the leads come through the finger tips... pretty smart i thought, juz wanted to know if it would be a practical idea to use or juz something stupid.

I dont understand why people have so many issues with mini's in the rain....?

When i used to drive my car everyday back in Atherton, on the Tablelands, it used to rain about 300 days a year... I never ever had a drama with my ignition system breaking down. I inspected it regularly and ensured all parts were in good condition.

Perfectly practical idea. Works well. You can "seal" up the "fingers" with some cable ties.

normally tiny runs well in the rain, but lately cause of heavy rain in sydney and the fact i drive on the motorway every day water is being splashed under the grill and into the dizzy so i need to figure something out to stop it, otherwise if its raining and im on a normal road tiny runs well

Looksa daggy is the only downside. Couples well with an ice cream container in front of it as well.

lol well ill have it on tiny so u guys might see it in practice on the dyno day in sydney, i dont car about daggy cause its under the bonnet and no one can see it and second atleast i can drive in the wet

This might seem like s stupid question/thought. But its not going to get too hot and melt the glove onto it will it??

the rubber the gloves are made of should stand the heat, and plus im only gonna use it when its raining so if anything the water should help keep it cool, its all testing but, im doin it this arvo and ill post up if it was successful or a doppy idea

i used to use a small piece of transperent plastic behind the grille infront of the dizzy when i had a 998, worked well and you couldnt see it

Yeah,
Both the rubber glove and ice-cream container were period "fixes" in their day.
These days, it's almost easier to convert to pulsar dizzy and get the best of both worlds.

hehe i do have an electric dizzy fitted but it still gets wet and with any dizzy that gets wet it will cough and splatter, i was thinking of using the plastic but i might use it next if the glove fails

plastic looks better then the glove and wont impair your ability to work on it. i did the glove once and it didnt work well, then i had to cut off all the cable ties etc. logic says go the plastic first

hmmm ok well i shall try ur plastic idea then, i juz started using the glove in some rain we hard a few mins ago worked excellent, the way ive done it is i didnt need to cable tie the finger tip ends cause ive onlycut a small hole and stretched to fit the leads through and the end of it im juz using a rubber band and it has basicly covered the whole dizzy, ill try it this week going to work if doesnt go to plan then ill be usingthe plastic for sure

A rubber glove will work well for a while - then oil and heat will start wearing the rubber out and it will have holes appearing in it.

Oh and dont use any cable ties, just make sure the finger holes are tight around the cables.
