If the Victorian Police are anything like Queensland, I'm not surprised you got caught. I saw more police today than I have in the last 9 months!
You should just be very glad you were caught by someone with a little bit of understanding, someone who obviously wants you to learn your lesson and is giving you a chance to do it without paying the full price. Cameras have no mercy. They don't care if you learn. They just want your money. Learn the lesson - don't waste the officer's generosity.
87 in what speed zone? It might pay to check your speedo's accuracy, if you don't believe his claim... :?
At the end of the day, whether the speed limit is justified or not (I once saw someone get done doing 105 between Rockhampton and Sarina - no one will ever convince me that shouldn't be at least a 130 zone, to stop people falling asleep! And yes, it was 105, he was barely pulling away from me, and I was doing 102 - he'd passed me 5km earlier), it's the limit, and you should only exceed it if you have the points and are prepared to lose the cash. :P No tickets here... 8) Yet...
And Mike, my biggest frustration is that politicians harp on about speed killing. There's a new ad up here, don't know if anyone else has seen it. Woman driving 80 in a 60 zone, hits kid on pedestrian crossing. The fact that the high school kid is shown not really watching the road and the woman is looking at her toddler's drawing in the backseat obviously have nothing to do with the crash... Inappropriate speed sure helps kill, but it wouldn't be half as bad if people drove more consistently and courteously, and paid attention to the road. I've got a 4WD, and I only just avoided being merged into the median strip by a light truck I was alongside for maybe 800m a few weeks ago... Idiot was more interested in what was frying his brain through his headphones than what was happening around him. :x

I attest.
I was driving around earlier, still feeling quite drunk from the night before.
And RBTs bloody everywhere... I saw four and passed through one.
I didn't get tested.
I was shitting myself. Your heart does drop when you think you are guilty... I am sure we have all been in the situation before.

And parked speed camera vehicles... probably 5 or 6 of these I saw.

So the motto.... Don't drink drive, Don't speed, Don't even bloody breathe if you don't wanna get caught doing anything wrong.

Pay the fine, and put it behind you.

another quick question! LOL

when im goin down hil...l its a ONE lane and theres a car RIGHT in front of me!...then as we approach an up hill....it split into 2 lanes....i got onto the left and he got onto the right!

is it possible for the cop to clock the 87 as what the first car is doin?...come to think abt it why did i end up gettin one while the one in front didnt! if the car in front was goin at 60!...theres no way im doin 87!....

also!......could it be that Bcos i got onto the LEF lane which makes it easier for him to pull me over???

No. If he was using a hand held they have a laser - able to pick one car amongst others in multiple lanes.

Wouldn't matter what lane, either - if he wanted you he would have got you. Or you'd have been chased and lost your licence.

Just pay it, Ryan.

What are these questions anyway? Arent you aware of what speed you were going at? Wouldnt you know the difference between doing 60 or doing a bloody 87 in a 60 zone (or was it a 50 zone)?
The speed camera needs a reflective surface to make its reading and naturaly the best reflective surface that is consistent regardless of the vehicle is your licence plates - so the cop would have had to focus right on your licence plate to book you - so the reading is probably right. Oh and the cop being "lenient" is just their way of appearing nice as they have to allow for a 5-8kph margin of error anyway for the offence to be prosecutable.

Off course there are a million and one cases where the speed cameras have screwed up (a milion and one just like your MOD EDIT excuses) but you wouldnt know here coz apparently you can't tell the difference between driving at 60 and driving at 90kph.

oh and no he didnt have to catch everyone who were speeding there - just anyone. You could have been caught in the middle of the next fast and furious production and be the only one thats booked and it still holds - coz the fact that everyone else was speeding (try and prove that now by the way)doesn't change the fact that you were.

Mike, in Victoria, they only allow a 3km/h margin of error. For the fine he got he'd have had to be going at least 15 over the speed limit (i know from experience  ) well at least i think thats what my fine was....

Years and years ago i got done between Brisbane and Toowoomba for travelling over the limit. I was in a convoy of cars who were all doing the same speed.

Miffed that i was chosen out of the crowd, the I asked the copper "why me and not one of those other cars?".

He said that I had a red car, and that for him Tuesday was a red car day.
Bummer...no arguement to that.

Yep speeding is idiotic. So doing so makes you an idiot. Yep get caught you pay the fine you get on with it and learn the lesson.

Everybody bags the boys in blue until you need them - they are just doing a job and the legislators are trying make sure that your next bed buddy isnt an earthworm.

Hi, aaron & BIAM.

Agreed, idiot is not a swear word - it was purely the phrasing that made it breach forum rules. BIAM's wording above is much nicer. 8)

Also, it doesn't apply for "Drink, Drive, Bloody Idiot" and such for the same reason.

Consider that although i may agree with your thoughts, there are more constructive ways to contribute to discussions.

Please PM me if there is an issue. :)
