i think it may have been a factory item/aftermarket part, but i used to have a dizzy water guard on mine (doesnt fit anymore since i bent the car...) it just had 2 holes in it so you could put it on under the normal dizzy clips to hold it in place, and it stopped any water getting on the diz from the front and from underneath as well.

doesnt look tacky, doesnt inhibit any (albiet minimal) airflow through the grille, and doesnt involve sticking anything onto your car/drilling any holes/using cableties which wind up looking tacky when holding something in anyway. like my stereo...

I have a sheet metal cover that was cut out (long time ago) pretty big, works well. Although it would stop heaps of air getting through, never had any water or over heating issues.

I think with a Lucas distributor you also have to be wary about allowing it to get too hot, which can happen with fancy shrouding. The heat causes the condenser to fail, which gives you trouble with the tune..
