My gearbox crunches when changing down from third to second and even does it when you double clutch sometimes. So it needs a rebuild, I got a quote of 1250

replacing all parts that need to be. Are all mini gear boxes not that crash hot and if i did get it rebuilt would it be worth the money and be right for years. Ive also heard of 5 speed gearboxes any good.
$1250 is alot of money, but you have to look at what you are getting.
A Mini gearbox is fine, how much power are you making? Boosted mini's RED850 makes 160HP on a standard mini K box with no problems.
It about how you treat it, a rebuilt box will treat you well for years to come.

I got a rebuilt gearbox from a mini specialist here is SA $750. That included full rebuild or a 4 syncho Mini K box with Cooper S output shaft and a 3.444:1 diff. All full recoed. $1250 is a bit much I think especially when ur providing the gearbox casing etc.
It depends what the term "fully rebuilt" means to you. You can go well over $750 on PARTS alone if the box is knackered. You'd have to ask yourself how "rebuilt" it is..

...take (for example) a genuine leyshaft (not a cheapo non gen one) at about $100 , then 3 leyshaft bearings (approx $60) , then a double row & a single row mainshaft bearings, (chunks $$$ there like maybe $160),,, then 4 x syncro rings at over $50 each now, ($200),,,then maybe a 2nd gear (probly $100 ---2nd hand if you`re lucky) ,,,then a full gasket & seal kit ($40 ish) ,,,then the diff ($ ??? could take a few hubndred to fix up) ,,,then the outrigger bearing $50-ish & drop gears -idler bearings etc.
So there you have possibly well over $1000 just in bits & pieces,,,not counting labour charges.
