The Nb race mini had the original until Thursday !!

Minor leak on Wednesday so changed filter again (had misaligned top seal and broke it) and no chance to test before heading off for wheel alignment on Thursday morning...

... to find I'd misaligned even worse and after rolling off the trailer and starting up pumped about 2 litres of oil on there forecourt  ..... so straight home and "stole" the spin on head off the clubman - no more leaks !

(Now searching for one to get the clubman ready for rego... )

I used to own a CRX - and the oil filter was up the back of the engine and high up ... so basically impossible to get too unless on a hoist !

Like a Fudd Laser....they couldn't have put it in a more inaccessible place if they tried :!:

Dint see any ACT Nb Minis at Eastern Creek on the weekend Ken :P

It's only getting harder to get these off the supercheap or repco floor anyway. If it wasn't an originality issue (even then....) I would not deal with them if I had the choice.

And you can use the camry (?) spin ons to last a little longer.

R418 spin-ons are cheaper too, I paid $3.80 each for a dozen Cooper ones. From Mekong Spares in Canley Vale...
Made in Korea, but so are the Valvoline ones Superdear sells.
BTW, Ryco ones come from China now, so I wouldn't pay a premium for `em any more.

Try a Kia 1.8 Mentor. From the front of the car, the filter is mounted at 90 degrees to the block, on the back of the engine towards the drivers side and under the oversized inlet manifold/injectors that all but touch the firewall.

If you don't have a hoist so that you can stand under the car and contort your arm up between the steering arm and the footwell you have to lay across the top of the engine and squeeze your arm down the only gap that's between the fuse box/mems and the inlet manifold on the passenger side, reach across the back of the engine and remove the filter one handed by 1/poofteenth of a turn at a time.

Oh... and you usually drop the wrench at least 10 times and have to extract your arm, get out of the engine bay and crawl under the car to retreave it

Got to love those Koreans!

Just make sure you put all the bits back on the bolt in the right order... spring, flat washer, seal washer, steel plate (if not attached to cartridge).
And change the rubber seal ring in the filter head...

If no spring, might as well leave the filter on the shelf..
it won't filter. All these parts are needed for it to work.

Hanra,
If you take care normally you can remove the securing bolt without dislodging the canister. This will allow you to drain the oil from the canister through the hole in the bottom of the can. You may need to position a funnel under it to chanel away from the subframe. Go To IT!

pfft, I want to put the cartridge back on my S... very hard to undo the spin on filter without undoing the screws that hold the oil cooler in and pulling it out of the way.... bastard of a thing!

I used to do the cartridges without making a mess, or much mess anyway. Why don't you just change the oil on the front lawn :D

I use the felt type cartridge that was recommended by Fred Sayers. Does anyone else use this style of filtering?
