I was based in Emerald when I worked for the CFMEU. I only saw one purple Mini and a yellow Moke there. So selling parts locally would seem impossible. I doubt that it would have been driven out of town either. I reckon it'll be in someones shed waiting for the heat to die down.
Good luck. I tell my mining mates to keep an eye out.

Get some pictures up here quick smart......Minis are easy to transport discreetly....your car could have been stolen to order and is miles away by now

if it makes you feel any better, or gets you a little over wanting to beat the guy.. when I was younger a friend of a friend (first time I had met him) was laughing and telling me about all the cars he had stolen and broken into...

I kicked the crap out of him just for you... did it good too.. hopefully one day somone will do the same to the guy you are talking about

By all means report the engine number and chassis number as stolen with the authorities. When the dude goes to register a car even with that engine number he will be in for a surprise.
I have just registered a Moke I have rebuilt over the last couple of years and used an engine out of a Mini K (that I own). The Q Transport person had trouble tracking the chassis number but was able to tell me where that engine came from according to the number! Go figure.

When i originally tried to get my car rego'd back in 97. When they entered in the body ID, they told me it was stolen from WA...... After doing a REVS check they eventually figured out that the stolen item was actually a trailer from a big rig....

Had me worried there for a bit!!!!

No - this happened to an acquaintance on mine - not on a mini though. He restored a car and aquired bits for all over the place - ebay, trading post etc etc. The engine popped up on a stolen list. He fortuantely had been fairly meticulous with receipts and could prove he bought the engine. The people he bought engine from also had proof of purchase. They bought a running car and drove it for a couple of years until cost of repairs needed for rego exceeded the car value so they stripped it for parts.

It did stop my aquaintances registration process and he was fairly worried. It turned out that the car was stolen eight years earlier, was uninsured etc and never recovered. The people who owned it at the time of the theft had moved on and were not interested in a motor of a car they no longer had.

The purchase paper trail basically stopped two owners before my friends motor acquisition.

What if the owner who did have it stolen did want it back??

I mean if my car was stolen, and sold and later reappear I'd still want it back. I mean i'd have my insurance pay out and all though, but still. Although I'd feel really bad for the buyer having paid for something that they no longer can have. Hmm that's hard, I'd think about it at the time if it were knocked off, no need to think about it now.

Depending on your insurance policy details - once the insurance pays out, they usually own the car, lock stock and barrel and if you want it then you have to bid for it with everyone else once it comes up for auction.

Shannons (and a couple of others) has a clause that allows you to keep the wreck as well as the payout if you elect to have that clause at the signup time..
